  • Question regarding TUG

Has the TUG website been down all day? I can not get on.

Earlier I received a message stating they were down for maintenance.

From what I read a couple of days ago, they are attempting a software update. Attempting, I say, because it has been hours and hours and it still is not done. The note on the site says it went down at 9AM Eastern, which is almost eight hours ago. They must have run into problems, and for some reason decided to forge ahead rather than just restore back to the old software and try again later.

      Oh well.

Maybe they read my post. They restored back to the old software and will try again at a later date.

When doing software upgrades most organisations will weigh the cost, (time, effort, availability etc) in restoring the old system against the cost of attempting to solve whatever problems are experienced. Only when a point is reached where it is clearly better to restore will that decision be made. Major software upgrades are fraught with potential problems and not all can be spotted during pre-upgrade testing.
