My next door neighbor had aluminum foil around the pot and around the flame, due to a windy day. He was trying to keep a temperature of 350 degrees. Some oil boiled over the pot onto the flames, then the whole dam pot exploded into a ball of fire; sending hot scalding oil 20' into the air. So, the darkness that surrounds the pot, is the hot scalding oil that blew up & out from the pot!!! Hopefully this explains it... Like I said, luckily no one was standing near by, nor got hurt.

OMG! This is exactly why I fear boiling a big pot of oil in my yard. Geez louise, he could have been killed!

Crap, it's a wonder someone wasn't hurt, or as Pat said, Killed. As many accidents that have happened with these things, it's a wonder they haven't been outlawed. shaggy
