  • A new wrinkle in the Spring Break theme...

So my DS's senior spring break trip is allegedly being planned and "chaperoned" by this company:

    GradCity - Home

anyone have any experience with this?

Chaperoning or acting as tour/travel agency? Last year, the day after we left Cancun, there was a tragic accident involving a boat and snorkel type tour. A young girl died.

I only point this out to illustrate that GradCity doesn't chaperone...but I'm sure you already know that

"anyone have any experience with this? "

No. And it is my fervent hope that I never will.
      GOOD LUCK Glitter.

Gee, they have "Parent and Family" destinations- does that mean you go to Cancun while the darlings are in the Bahamas????

Who is 'organizing' this trip - certainly not the school district? They would be crazy to endorse this outfit!

That website is giving me the twitchies.

I don't see any mention of chaperoning...is it there?

Please lie and tell me this is targeting young adults just graduating from college with advanced degrees and not high school kids.

I'll have to start trying to sabotage my daughter's grades and see if I can get her held back five or six times just to delay having to deal with this!

              Ouch... Good luck.....

I thought the exact same thing.......You really do need to give the child credit, where credit is due.

This came up in another thread recently.

My kids are welcome to go on one of this trips, just as soon as they are paying their own rent, buying their own food, and washing their own clothes. Any money they have left over after that, they can do with what they will.

                    Q & A
Does the school need to sponsor the trip?

It depends on the trip. Walt Disney World's GradNite and Universal Studio's GradBash must be
school-sponsored, but this does not apply to our other domestic and international destinations.
Although most trips are not school-sponsored, we do enjoy great relationships with those parents, teachers, and administrators who travel with us every year.

                    Q & A
Do we need to send chaperones?

Chaperones are always encouraged and welcome to come but by no means are required.

Snort. Especially if you ask the kids.

Sounds like the resident assistant that lived at the dorm my first year at UF.. We'd buzz him to come open the door for us when we were too drunk to fit the key into the lock.. He would also "sometimes" ask ladies to leave when they were found in the showers- but always went back in his room so he didn't see where they actually went.

I always thought of him as a great guy and a true role model!

Of course, my point of view has changed quite a bit since then......

I did review the website and came to the same conclusion. RP, your post is hilarious, and brought a similar RA to mind.

This is definitely being targeted at high school students. And the school district goes to great lengths to make sure parents know that it is neither organized nor condoned by the school.

My immediate answer was "NO," without even looking it up. Of course, DS is under the impression, or at least wants me to be under the impression, that GradCity provides chaperones.

Perhaps I'll offer to join them as a chaperone, that ought to end it... (not that I'd get caught dead doing that, but he wouldn't get caught dead having me there, so no problem).

Today was, according to DS, who sprung this on me last night, the last day for the deposit (for 14 months from now, bion), I'll bet he put down his own money to keep his options open, so I'm sure this is to be continued. Good news is that once his father gets wind of it, he'll immediately say no based on the expense, and the other issues will be moot.
