My son made the high school math team this year and they had a meet this past weekend. They did something unusual as part of the competition. They had each team write a poem for Valentine's day. Here is what two of his teammates came up with:
After the meet, the hosts held a poetry contest with a Valentine's Day theme.
Iolani won first place there too with the following poem written by Anders Lee and William Chambers. After reciting the winning poem to the entire league, Anders received a rousing round of applause.
Your love is my discriminant;
without it, I am not real.
My love for you is like the square root of 3,
completely irrational.
Without you, I am divided by zero,
undefined
You are the c squared in my a squared plus b squared,
you complete me.
Like pi,
our love will go on forever.
I give my r = 1 - sin(theta) to you.
(Note: the graph of r = 1 - sin(theta) in the polar coordinate system is a cardioid, which is a heart-shaped graph)
