Anyone know what braces are costing for top and bottom. Got a quote of 5,500 without insurance. I have insurance but think once they know you have coverage they up the price. Thanks Scott/Buff

I paid about that price just for the top alone. They come off this summer so my son is happy about that.

I think my son's were about $4800 for top and bottom. We got a quote from two orthodontists and both were similar. They gave us the quote not knowing whether we had insurance or not. Our insurance only covered $700 anyways He just got them off a few weeks ago. If you're not certain that you're getting a decent quote, why not get a few quotes? We got recommendations from friends and family and then got quotes from the two most recommended. Debi

My oldest DD just got them about a month ago. $5,500. That's an estimated 18 months of treatment, top and bottom. There was a small discount for paying everything up front. We also just got an estimate for middle DD--$5,900 b/c their prices are going up. She will also need top and bottom but it should only take 15 months.

We're in the greater NYC area, very expensive. Neither kid has really bad teeth--just fairly mild bite and alignment problems.

Looks like we win the booby prize. We paid $6000 2 1/2 years ago. Going up to $6500-$7000 for younger son starting in September... (no insurance, so forget that theory...)

$5200 for older son (supposed to be 24 months of treatment, he did go 6 months longer because he resisted the rubber bands, but that was no charge to us), $4800 for daughter 2 yrs later (supposed to be done in 18-21 months) --
Nothing severely wrong w/ either kid's teeth.
No one we consulted knew if we did or did not have insurance.
We did see one group and they looked in dd's mouth, counted her teeth etc., and then talked about taking xrays so that they could make their determination. They wanted $200 for xrays just for them to be able to give us a quote, with the price applied to treatment cost if we went with them for the braces. I was amazed and did not go further with them , but they are quite the popular group in my area.

We also paid 6,000 for our daughter's braces. We did not have insurance, however, they billed us monthly, so it was a little easier to deal with.

We had four girls in braces, but that was 10-20 years ago. I think the price averaged about $3,000 per kid. That would have been a nice car for Mom and Dad back then.

My daughter will likely get them in the next 6-12 months and we have been told to expect ~$6,000. DD #2 will likely be right behind her. You know how many timeshares I could buy for that????

                      Calif. costs

We paid $5,000 (insurance) for my daughter about 8 years ago and two years later we paid $6,000 (double coverage paid all except for $1,000 we paid out of pocket plus the x-rays before and after). Funny you should mention it now because just yesterday was my son's final visit.
