  • What's your favorite city in Europe?

I haven't been to too many cities in Europe, but have loved the ones that I have visited, and am hoping to visit as many as possible. So many to choose from, and not enough time.

I was wondering....What is your favorite city in Europe, and why?

    Thanks!

Italy, Austria, Greece and Switzerland were all great. This year we are seeing London and France, I did not care to much for Germany

It's not a city, rather an area, but Bavaria hands down!

I'm not qualified to answer but am very interested in others opinions.

I adored the greek islands (typical Malibu Beach Barbie place but with less clothes) thoruoghly enjoyed Athens but also loved England's cotswolds and London and Bath.

Excluding rural areas and smaller towns, I'd choose Venice, for these reasons: No cars, ancient, history, culture, art, architecture, music, food, language, scenery, water, boats, islands, color, photogenic, near beaches, lots to do, and probably most different from any other city I've been to.

Brugge, Belgium in the summer. If you love chocolate this is the place to go. It is lots of fun to walk the old town with its quaint streets and stores stopping often for a piece of chocolate. Also, it is the Venice of the North with canals, but it has the cars, etc. unlike the real Venice. Also, the food is great.

I'm not even positive where Bavaria is....I'd love to get to Prague, and Budapest, tho. I think they may be in that general area?

The Greek Islands sound great.....Also remember loving your pics from your trip to England. The English countryside looked so beautiful. I would love to get there, one day.

                  Not quite.

Bavaria (German: Freistaat Bayern (help·info); IPA: [fraɪ.ʃtaːt ˈbaɪ.ɐn]), with an area of 70,548 square kilometres (27,200 sq mi) and almost 12.5 million inhabitants, is located in the southeast of Germany and is the largest federal state (Bundesland) of Germany by area. Its capital is Munich in Upper Bavaria. About 6.4 million of its population are Bavarian, 4.1 million Franconian and 1.8 million Swabian

I loved Italy, but never got to Venice. It's on my short list, tho.....I want to get there, before it sinks.

I've been to Belgium in the summer, as well as Brugge.....Brugge was fantastic! We didn't really know too much about Brugge, and just fell in love with the city once we arrived there. Now, I tell everyone who's going to be in that area to make sure that they visit Brugge. I think it was about a 45 minute train ride from Brussels.

Dublin & Edinburgh......Yup, must see cities that I'd love to visit one day. I'm sure that Bath, and Richmond are as well, but i don't know anything about them. I'll have to google them, and get some info.

Oh, the Southeast area of Germany & Munich.....So, that's Bavaria. Oops! I had a feeling that I didn't know where Bavaria was.

That area sounds lovely, too, and being as it's mav's pick, I'm sure it's beautiful.

I can't answer this question because it is so personal and depends on what you like. I like most major cities in Europe but each one is so different. There are many little cities too that are beautiful and so unique but there isn't enough time to explore them all. I am most familiar with Amsterdam, Paris, London, Brussels and Madrid because I lived there long enough but I loved living in Lausanne. San Francisco always reminds me of Lausanne but it is on the beautiful Lake of Geneva and it has the hills just like SF. I was so impressed with Vienna that we hope to visit there again this summer and Prague. They say that this is the most beautiful city in Europe but I haven't been there yet.

Cadiz is the oldest city in Europe and I enjoyed living here too because it had a beautiful beach and the sea water was warm. You already visited some of Spain's most beautiful cities and in Italy too. Copenhagen also comes to mind and Wiesbaden in Germany (a little gem). Bath would be interesting to visit too and the countryside in England is beautiful. I also like Bruges (Brugge in Flemish) that somebody here mentioned already.

A trip through France through the wine country would be interesting too or a barge tour from Amsterdam to Vienna. I hope that Carolinian will chime in as he knows Europe much better than I do.

Not a city, but a region: Loire Valley in France. A few years back we spend about a week touring several Châteaux, basing ourselves in Tours (an easy and fast train ride from Paris). Places like Chenonceau, Château de Chambord and Château d'Amboise, were a few of our favorites. If you are into those types of historic places, the Loire Valley is a great choice.

We're going to be in Italy this fall -- glad to hear such good things about Venice!

Yes, I loved Spain....It was so beautiful, and the people were so friendly. I've only been to the Costa del Sol, tho. I'd love to see Barcelona & Madrid.

Yup, I'd like to do that exact trip. Prague is suppose to be stunning, and many people seems to really love Budapest.
