I picked up two different books to try and learn just enough French to get by. Unfortunately, I have not even looked at them. I know what I'll be doing on the flight over. BTW, I took French for 4 years in HS, and can't speak a word....DH, ditto!

Seems to be a favorite for many, and is on my short list of places in Europe. Maybe in 2010.

Thanks. I had to look up Tallinn since I've never heard of it. Looks very nice.....

If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.

BTW, I'm still keeping track of how many times you annoy me.

          Ang,
I had to laugh when I read this. I had 2 yrs of French. I can remember please, thank you and the pen is on the table. I guess I'd have to stay out of the pastry shops. Of course I do know how to point,

I can't believe that nobody above has mentioned Madrid.

Spain is an incredible country, with mixtures of European, Moorish and Pacific cultures. As the dominant power in the world for many years, Spain colonized South America and the Pacific, and has integrated portions of their culture into its own (and the intermixing of the various races has made for some incredibly beautiful people); prior to that it was invaded by the Romans and the Moors, and it also has its native Basque and Catalan cultures. All of this has created a giant melting pot with incredible art (Picasso, Goya, Dali, etc.), architecture (the Alcazar, the Alhambra, Roman Aqueducts, bridges and structures, other Moorish architecture like Torremolinos, great Rennaisance Cathedrals, palaces, etc.), walled cities like Toledo and Avila (Toledo is a 1-hour train ride from Madrid), incredible dance and music (flamenco, spanish guitar and classical music), all of which is influenced heavily by the middle eastern and gypsy cultures which are part of the Spanish history, and amazing food of every kind.

I could spend months in Madrid, enjoying the music, art and architecture, sipping Sangria in the Plaza Mayor and people watching, and feasting on tapas and churros con chocolate daily. Without a doubt, my favorite city in Europe -- and I have been to quite a few.
