Okay, I have my iPhone now. I set up email and made a few phone calls. I think it is going to work out great.

I was worried about the touch screen keyboard. It turns out to be pretty easy to use. So, I am less concerned about it now. I was able to set up email very quickly with all of my email accounts and I can see folders as well.

I had an issue picking it up this morning. First of all, we got there a little after 7 am when they opened. But, didn't get into the store until 9 am. And, AT&T messed up the port of my phone number. So, that took us an extra 1.5 hours. And, they wanted me to come back tomorrow since you can only order one port per 24 hour period. I said, no way Jose. So, they set me up with a temp number until I can get my phone number tomorrow.

After seeing how easy it was for me to set up my email accounts, my wife is thinking about dumping the blackberry and getting the iPhone like we originally planned. We'll see if she changes her mind tomorrow.

A few times already, a person has asked me if they could try the iPhone for a minute. They like the keyboard against the other one as it seems more sensitive and accurate to them. I am not familiar with the other models so don't know what they are talking about but it is a smart phone that just came out so it can't be the brand new Palm Pre that isn't out yet. I am curious what that will be like but it may be more expensive.

I prefer the TUG regular forum over the mobile TS4MS' page but it is OK too. The only thing I had to do in TUG is have the last message come up first.

This Apple iPhone is the BEST PRODUCT ever created in a handheld device. After less than 24 hours of usage, unassisted by any Apple Genius, I was able to get everything working the way I've always wanted a handheld device to work.

Setting email up was a snap. I got all of my email accounts set up and I can see all of the folders as well. Also, not having any problems viewing attachments. I get all of my voicemail sent to email. Had no problem listening to my voicemail.

The web interface is fantastic. Works just like a web browser should work on a pda. I've already got my favorites loaded.

Phone has great quality and the bluetooth interface synched right away with the device. And, when you answer the phone, you can select bluetooth, speaker or iPhone so you don't have to scramble for your headset when the phone rings.

Already set up contacts. Very easy to add them right from recent calls list.

I am already familiar with the ipod interface. So, I am user that works brillantly.

And, the applications are phenomenal. They have an HP 12C application which is the exact financial calculator I have used since college.

For running, there is a gps application that will calculate average speed and distance. and, the application is free.

My wife is on the verge of returning her Blackberry and getting an iPhone. She still can't get folders working on that device.

My only concern was the keyboard. It is amazingly accurate. I can already type at a decent speed. Once I get used to it, I hope I can approximate the speed I had when I had a Blackberry.

Tethering is here via a hack. It will be available when AT&T gets its act together. It will be another $30/month for that feature, but it should be worth every penny to anyone who travels and must access the internet every hour of the day.

Once again, I must say that this is the single best handheld product ever created.

          Emmy,

I've tried both the TUG and TS4Ms interface on my iPhone and I have to agree with you. The standard interface is better than the mobile interface.

I guess, you just sold Avery. I love the iPhone too and use it everywhere even while waiting in a line or for a meal. The text messaging is so much easier to do than on my old phone I had. I really like it.

Remember Verizon had first dibs on the iPhone and turned it down. While they may regret that - or they may not - AT&T was the decisive second choice by Apple due largely to reputation and lack of coverage where Verizon shines.

While the iPhone has its pluses being tied to only AT&T means I'll never have one until that changes AND only then if Palm is no longer a viable option.
LOL. Another wannabe company who claims to have an "X" killer. The information superhighway is littered with roadkill from such companies. After spending a 20 year career in high tech, EVERY start up has that claim. I have NEVER heard of an "X" killer before it actually killed the competition with the exception of Internet Explorer vs. Netscape. If you are the killer, you don't have to have anyone tell you it's the killer, you just see it dominate.

I don't know anything about Palm. I looked at the Treo a couple of years ago and I had a Palm device once. It's hard to imagine anyone else competing in the 2 horse race of RIMM and Apple.

I agree! BTW, thanks for buying iphone! I live in Cupertino and some of my neighbors work for Apple. Apple contributes a lot to our city's tax base.

I could have written exactly what you say BUT I felt that nearly 4 years ago when the 650 - 700 & 755 Treo's were new. Now I'm just waiting for the Pre to come to Verizon (sorry Sprint but you don't make the cut despite the best in hardware available today).

Tethering? That came along with the 650 over 5 years ago! Thousands of programs? Try 10's of thousands - many free - that are tested and work well on PALM. It has a much better organizer function (the PALM IS PDA) as well as a better phone. Add in both a keyboard AND touch screen. Rugged? My original 650 went for an unintentional swim at 7 days old. I dried it out - Verizon replaced it for $50 (insurance - well worth it) and told me they didn't want the wet one back. I gave it to my daughter who used it for 2 years before she moved to a 700. Replaceable battery (Apple - why not?) It is my dvd player, MP3 player, GPS (real TomTom) and my Slingbox Client. iPhone - some imitations along with the excellent mp3/dvd of most video iPods. It's my web browser, email (sorry Blackberry - the Palm does it better!). It could even be my master remote control at home but its doing enough already (hehe).

As you say about the iPhone the Palm Treo is the best piece of electronic equipment I've ever used /seen. Bar none. That includes all models of iPhone's. Add in the superior service & coverage of Verizon vs AT&T and the sale is made. I can't wait for the next generation of the true leader in Smart Phones to come to Verizon. I see you say you never looked at Palm. Too bad - you're missing the very best there is and could have been enjoying that feeling you have today for the past 5 years.

And just as I was about to head to Verizon for a Blackberry The lines to get the iPhones here are ridiculous, and the AT&T service really [STRIKE]sucks a$$[/STRIKE] stinks around here, especially in the city. I was on the phone with a friend yesterday and the call got dropped three times. This happens so often, and I really do use my phone as a phone...

If you need it now go for the Palm Centro or a Blackberry but stick with Verizon or you will regret the 2 years you are stuck on AT&T. IF you can wait the Palm Pre from Verizon is the real thing - no hype or cult like devotion. It just works as it should. Find someone with an old 700 or 755P that is upgrading you can pick up to buy time until the Pre is out. It will be worth the wait.

I just looked up the market share for the Palm OS. It commands a 0.9% market share of the smart phone market. It's going nowhere. It's only useful for a very small fringe community of users. Comparing Palm OS applications to Apple iPhone applications is like counting DOS applications in the windows discussion. You can throw them all out.

The Palm OS is the DAE of the smart phone world. A bit player that has a very small, but loyal following from the early days of the Palm Desktop which I dumped years ago.

If it every gets to 5%, I might take a look at it.

I remember why AT&T got the contract for the Apple iPhone. Apple approached several companies and asked if Apple could produce a whole new type of Smartphone and AT&T was the only company that said "go ahead" and AT&T let them roll out a whole new type of Smartphone which didn't look and feel like any of the other ones. I must have heard it when Steve Job introduced the new iPhone. It blew my mind when I first saw this video clip how this little phone works. It's so intuitive that even a kid can figure it out immediately.

Of course, they will get more competition now and some better features will be introduced but Apple is not sitting still either and technology will only get better for all of us. This is exactly what I like from a free market place without Government intervention. Competition is very healthy and great for the consumer because prices will not get out of hand.

Here is an old Google video clip as I cannot find it so quickly on the Apple web site. It used to be there. The video is quite long but I found it very interesting. I don't know if it is complete or not and the quality is not the greatest either of this clip but the story may be here as I didn't make it up.

Yes, it is the complete video as I checked the end and this is what Steve Job said at the end: "the iPhone is like having your life in your pocket."
