  • Lymphedema treatments

Edema is the diagnosis of why my leg damage is repairing very slowly. Thank goodness no infection has set in.

Starting massage and wrapping of both legs on 1 June.

M-T and T-F, 4 days each week for 4 weeks.

Not looking forward to this for the whole month of June. My plan was to be putting in a rear patio and hot tub..

Has anyone gone through these treatments? How bad was your condition? Did you gain from the treatments?

No, we haven't. Do you have swelling in your ankles mainly? Would a pillow help at night? I hope your doctor did a complete exam so found out what the cause is. I hope it is not too painful Robert.

So sorry you are having this trouble, Robert....I don't know anyone who has gone thru this, but I do hope that it goes quickly and you are feeling much better thru the treatment. Regards to your DW.

        Hurts sometimes but not painful.

I feel better when actively doing around the place. However, if they can't stop the enema, I'll not have the means to walk as I know it.

That may take a few years, but I hope to never see that day.

Feet and below the knees swell quite often and for no logical cause. The last big bout lasted 4 days. Took water pills and drank fluids ALOT and swelling came down. So will attempt to drink more at least. Maybe that will help push the bad along.

Ultrasound scans and lab work showed negative. Doc feels the bad fluid stuff isn't getting back to be cleansed, is just sitting there blocking up skin and flesh to where fluid circulation is slowed.

Leg elevation at all time supposedly helps as gravity is not kind regarding this condition.

I need to stop computer sit-time and devote same to walking. Maybe a computer rig-up on a treadmill would help. ...... Listen to Hawian music while getting in some mileage and maybe even work on those Trip West reports. I hate to type, but I feel others might could use the information.

Anyway, not complaining, just filling you in... keeping in touch.

btw, Caroll says for me to get on with planning a trip to Hawaii for a year from now (for our 50th). SO, you see, she must be feeling like she could sit for those long flights.

It sure seems great to grow old together. Such a lovely lady! I want to just go relax a few weeks with her. Seems I'm always too busy.

I'll attempt extending our stay by booking several resorts in sucession.

Please input the lovely things to do and see for seniors of 70+. But that needs to be another thread.

Hoping all are doing well while keeping Memorial in mind.

May God continue to smile on us!

Robert, I had a friend who had edema in her legs, and in addition to what the doctor advised she also massaged her legs upward with a brand new "scrubbie" to encourage the circulation back up. This speeded her recovery...I don't know if something like that can be helpful to you. Wishing you well, soon!

I'll have to figure out what a scubbie is and try it.
            Thanks.

                Robert,

Thanks again for all the help for my trip out west. We are leaving in less than 2 months and so looking foward to the trip. I have since learned that the Seattle Sea Fair will be going on during our first week so will be enjoying some of the events in Seattle. Other than that we still have not nailed down an Itinerary for the trip.

DW is a PT that specializes in Lymphedema treatment. Although I have not seen to many of the results first hand she talks often of the sucess rate being very very good as a treatment for Edema and many other causes for lower limb swelling.

My father has the same issues and also Arterial Sclerosis? He seemed to be wearing his stockings a bit longer than 1 month but his legs have finally healed to where they can operate again.

I hope it all goes well with your treatments and remember if Joe Namath can wear stockings we all can wear stockings.

No matter your itinerary, I know you will be on the move and enjoying.

Ultrasound scans show the arteries working fine, we just know the swelling has to go away. I'll learn what to do soon. I know I'll get used to wearing the stockings if that helps. I sure can't imagine losing limbs because of pride and stupidity. Which do I prefer, stocking or wheeled chair?

Got to ease off doing so much that leads to injury. Can't afford that with edema.

Will do less and walk more. Need to drop 55 pounds and 70 would be better.

                    Thanks.
It is a nylon pad, usually sold in the sponge department of grocer....it was soft but also had this nylon netting over it...she used it to massage from her feet upward....she used some light lotion to keep the skin from being irritated from the motion, but not anything too heavy, as she wanted the skin to breathe. Her doctors were amazed that she managed to fully recover. She is a remarkable woman with lots of "down to earth" sense.

I think it is called a "scrubbie".

Thanks for the scrubbie hint and the health wishes.

I know many pray for God's help. You too are in my prayers.
