  • 50th coming up for Caroll and Robert!

Please share your reasons for picking a romantic place to spend 2 or 3 successive weeks. What is there about the place?

June 2010 is just a year away and we’ve only now started thinking of what we want to do. Hawaii, Caribbean, Greek Isles perhaps… ???
Where is the greatest for shear laid back romantic togetherness? We don't wish to drive all over the place sight seeing. We want the area to be cosy and somewhat quaint.

We could do 2 weeks Hawaii then fly elsewhere for two more, but Caroll has trouble with sitting on those long trips. Maybe just island hop Kauai and Maui.

How do places of western Mexico compare with Kona, Hawaii? (Of course it has been 17 years since we were on the Big Island.)

We like meandering Old-Spain cities like Cadiz, but then, I think of cobblestone streets and I must remember these are 70 year old legs.

Palms and pool we can get most anywhere. We also want memorable atmosphere and views for this time.

We love the Hawaiian music and lean toward hitting Kauai and Maui… but it’s so many flight hours away, and too, we don’t wish to sit on the porch looking at the sea or mountains. We wish beautiful overlooks, stroling to quaint sidewalk cafes, as well as upscale dining. Where?

How much of that can be found on Maui or Kauai? In Mexico? Even in the US?

Maybe we need to revisit Austria?

    Your thoughts please?

Since you mentioned the Greek Isles, my absolute favorite is Santorini. Cute little streets to wander and a fabulous view!

And if you are going to Austria, Salzburg is fabulous.

        Getting nowhere fast!!

        Santorini would be great. Thanks.

Can no one think of those romantic places
or is it that 2 or 3 successive weeks is too much to imagine?

Where would you like to go on your anniversary?
Or where have you been for yours? Maybe that will help.

            WoW....congrats!

I am celebrating my 30th wedding anniversary in 2010...and we decided to go back to Barcelona for a few days and do a 2 week transatlantic cruise on the Disney Magic.

We did this in 2007 and REALLY liked it - can't wait to spend a few days again in Barcelona - just fabulous!

I am going to Marbella Spain this year and hope to tour the southern coast of Spain...it is a wonderful romantic country with so much to see and do - you could easily spend 3 weeks touring about- eating the wonderful food, drinking the wonderful wine, enjoying the friendly people and the gorgeous architecture and natural scenery......a great place to visit.

              Wow, congratulations!

I vote Europe, can't be much more help than that. Flight is half that of Hawaii, and it sounds like you'd find more of what you are looking for. You could combine a city/island trip...

Frank, from what I read, you have no problem picking what to do. That island resort sound great.

We agree with you. Barcelona to Malaga and westward to Jerez and Cadiz. Wonderful to visit. We spent 3 years there over 40 years ago. Went back once... even stopped over at Palma. "Progress" has ruined it for us.

Lived on Oahu for a year, back in 60/61. Went back 17 years ago. "Civilization" has made it uncivilized!

We hope to find quaint comfortable charming, if that makes sense. It needs to be some place we've not been to yet, so nothing has been ruined from what we remember.

                    CONGRATS... The big 5-Ohhh

Since Carroll has a hard time flying long distances maybe a Transatlantic Cruise and a week on a great Greek Isle or some other Europe location.

What a great celebration here is to many more years

Congratulations with the 50th wedding anniversary coming soon, Robert.

Go to Molokai as that hasn't changed much yet and reminds you of HI the way it used to be. We really enjoyed it but we rented a little condo on the beach because the Ke Nani Kai isn't on the beach. All the Islands are so built up now but the beaches are still great.

Why not take a cruise because you can make it as romantic as you like but have all the conveniences too so be spoiled and they are quite reasonable now. The problem is that there is too much choice!

                        Congratulations!!......What a milestone!

I say go to Europe, too.

I'd go to either the Costa del Sol, Malaga, Ronda, Puerto Bueno, etc., in Spain. The Almafi Coast, in Italy. Capri, Sorrento & Almafi are just beautiful.) Or, The So of France. Nice, Monaco, Cannes, etc.

Beautiful areas where you don't need to do extensive sightseeing, if you don't want to. You can leisurely stroll through the towns, and take in the beauty. You can sit at the outdoor cafes, and people watch, or sit sipping a drink, looking out at the ocean.

BTW, I'm still keeping track of how many times you annoy me.

For Barcelona... I wanted to mention Los Caracoles. The best paella. Try getting seated on the second floor overlooking the cooking area. Pretty interesting.

All that sounds wonderful. How much climbing is required to stroll the towns along the Almafi Coast?

Monaco itself was facinating, but Nice and Cannes we found disappointing, etc.

More info on Italy and Spain might be helpful. Where are the fantastic views, the eateries? What was enjoyable to you?

Both the coast of Spain & Italy were beautiful, with lots to see, and very friendly people.

Both areas have great views of the ocean from lots of locations.....Various resorts, restaurants, cliffs, just driving along the roads, etc.

I posted some pics on TS4M's, so that may help you get a better idea of the areas.

We really enjoyed visiting the different towns, sampling the food, and meeting the people. We would stroll though the towns, eat at an outdoor cafe, do a little shopping, and walk through the parks, beaches, and streets of each location.

We had a great time, and I will definitely return one day to both areas.
