    First, CONGRATULATIONS
I would also say Europe and Italy in particular and if in Italy Venice is a must for me, but Capri or the Almafi Coast would also be super.
I also hear that parts of Spair could fill the bill, but, like Frank have no 1st hand knowledge.
Other than that I would pick anyplace with nice beaches!!

The Amalfi coast is beautiful as it was beautiful in 1964 when I was there. I wonder how the traffic is today with these narrow, winding roads as it was standing still when I was there. Capri was most romantic to me but I also love the lakes in Switzerland and Austria. You can make beautiful walks right on the water's edge at many places. The English country side is beautiful too plus you speak the language. Too many choices, Robert.

Make sure you include a visit to GRANADA. A bit off the coast, but only a little.

Right on! I like all of that.

Tour areas in the US have turn outs at vistas.
Can anyone tell me... Are there places to park and get out for looking or must one take a tour to walk those paths... to see it all?

          .

            I meant to add...

I'm also interested in info regarding auto rental and getting on and off trains.

For instance, if we fly into Naples and want to spend a timeshare week in that area... Then move up to the Florence/Tuscany area for a week.

Do we turn in car and get aboard train then reverse the process? Or would it make better sense to retain one car for the whole timeframe?

I'm sure gasoline prices are up, but that switching around with luggage seems like a big pain also.

I've read many posts. They say where they stay but find little on what people actually do in detail.

Does everyone do taxi or limo and use rentacars? I would think the trains have to be used

You can take a tour if you'd like, or you can walk around on your own. For instance, we didn't need to, but choose to take a tour of Pompeii. However, we walked everywhere on our own in Capri.

We did take a tour boat to see the blue lagoon in Capri, but that was it, and you certain did not need to. Capri was magical, IMO, very romantic. Plus, they make custom made shoes in Capri. Whats not to like?
              Angela

If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.

BTW, I'm still keeping track of how many times you annoy me.

Congratulation !!! May I suggest a 7 to 10 days cruise of the Med (Barcelonia to Rome), (Which includes stops in Barcelonia, Spain, Monte Carlo, Monaco, Portofino, Italy, Florence, Sorrento and Rome (Civitavecchia) Italy. A cruise to the Med will be a great way to celebrate your 50th anniversary.

Share your reasons for picking that romantic place. What was there about the place?

The place Frank went to sounds great. We want to go away for 2 weeks though. We want the area to be cosy and somewhat quaint, but we don’t wish to break the bank.

For years we thought it would be the music and beaches of the Hawaian Isles.

The Almafi Coast and Tuscany might do. From those places we could day trip to Capri or Florence. Mainly we wish to relax and enjoy memorable atmosphere.

A cruise of the Med sounds a bit interesting. I’m certain I would like that more than the Naval Med deployments I caught.

Name the places with fantastic surroundings, quaint cafes, parks to walk through, and fine dining.

Name the fantastic views, the eateries so I might look them up and help decide.

                      Where? Maui, Kauai? Mexico, Carribean?

How about even in-country? Do you know of places you would love to go and just stay?

The place I went to you only need to go for 3-4 days mid week is less. You can fly out of MIA to the Carib or IMO do St Johns in the USVI or Mexico or Aruba. It will be easy to get in and out of MIA

Looking into several places. We hope to go a week and then maybe another week nearby.
Hopefully fly out of here to wherever.

That place you booked sure looked to be swell.
