Long shot - but is anyone here a pediatric ophthamologist?
Long shot - but is anyone here a pediatric ophthamologist?
My youngest needs to see one (poss. tracking and near vision issues...she is 10) and I'm looking for a recommendation. We are in CT, an hour from NYC. Feel free to PM!
Sharon, I'm certainly not, but if I needed to find one I'd ask for recommendations both from my pediatrician, and from my current opthomologist. Then compare and see if any of the names are the same. We did this when we needed to find a children's dentist. Found we got the same name from both our dentist and the pediatrician.
Unfortantely, when my son was born 11 years ago, he had a droopy eye lid that needed close watching. We saw Dr. Steele many times.
He is fantastic. He is on the Upper West Side of Manhattan. I know he was never a participant in any of our insurance plans, but he is really good (and my wife thinks he's gorgeous).
Pamela Gallin at Babies' Hospital at Columbia (very well-respected--we saw her for a second opinion for one of our kids)
Frederick Wang, associated with Lenox Hill
Brian Campolattaro, specializes in eye muscle problems (he's my eye doctor, but it's mostly a pediatric practice)
Wang and Campolattaro have an office on 40th St. in Manhattan and one in Riverdale.

Best of luck.

Do you know if he used to be on East 34th street before that? I'm pretty sure that's who we used when we were worried about strabismus with my DS.
If you end up in the Intermountain West, we've seen three out here, definitely have our favorite for my son.
Honestly, it's a pretty narrow specialty and most don't go into it if they're not pretty good and like it. Most other subspecialties in ophthalmology are more lucrative. (And you don't have to torment kids on a regular basis
Yes. He used to have an office on East 34th and on W. 79th Street. Now he is on W. 72nd Street.

I thought so. He was terrific. Helped avoid strabismus surgery and patching my DS, I really appreciated his conservative approach. At the time, was considered "THE ONE" by my doctor friends and pediatrician in NYC.
