Too bad not all vipers can be gotten rid of that easily.

I'm not a big fan of snakes but living in south Florida I've seen more snakes than I care to the short time I'm here. One day my wife was sitting outside and one came rolling down from the roof and landed a few feet from her. A bird must have picked it up and was going to eat it on the roof and it escaped. I hope.The local news here is unusual enough many times you see someone who's been bitten by some kind of poisonous snake and now officials are worried about Burmese pythons some over 10' long becoming the top predator in the everglades.

Most of those pythons were (or offspring) pets that got released in the wild. Same as the igaunas that are causing so many problems.

I'm less than a mile from the everglades. A 10 to 20 foot snake in my yard would cause me grief.

Well, this is New England where these things aren't supposed to be, at least in my driveway !

Next time I will give it a stern talking to and a one-way ticket back to Florida or the Bayou country.

I lived in New York, in lake community and water snakes were a common site many people confused them for water moccasins.I, Like you, don't care to see any.

This is what I think happened, exactly ! They are very much alike and maybe I'm in denial, but I don't think it was identified correctly and is the lesser evil - Northern Black Water Snake.
I am going to get a copy of the video and let one of the Vets at Tufts give me her opinion.

Lots of snakes around here this year--about a 50-50 chance of seeing one every time I go out to garden. I tend to leave them be, unless they are definitely poisonous- and the only likely ones like that around here are copperheads and rattlers.

Python season in the Everglades...

In Florida, snakes are common (but I still get queasy every time I see one!)! Here is a recent article about how the state recently decided to allow hunters to search for Pythons in the Everglades..

The ridiculous part is that they are only allowed to use blades or blunt objects when hunting...

You've got to wonder what politician came up with that plan- and was he really trying to get rid of the snakes, or the hunters?

Florida is always good for a laugh!

This python was evidently being kept as a pet at a house on Lake Apopka not far from my home.. Neighbors got tired of it escaping and called it in as a public safety issue...
