  • What a mess I've made.

I guess it's too early for my brain because I am reading the forum and then I hear all this gurgling and spitting going on in the kitchen and it finally dawns on me to check it out and I don't see any coffee in the pot.

Well that pot should be done by now but I guess I didn't notice that the little plastic thingy on the pot wasn't quite on right so the coffee is spilling out over the basket and onto the counter and now on the floor.

Aaaaagggghhhhh!!!. Next time I go to a TS I'm bringing my own coffee maker.

Anybody else do this on their vacations? Now I've gotta clean up the mess.

Ugh....too bad. I've had my share of coffee incidents over the years.

I currently have a Keurig, and have brewed a cup of coffee without putting a cup under the spout for the coffee to go into. My DH has done the same thing, and he's not even blonde.

BTW, I'm still keeping track of how many times you annoy me.

Maybe that's my problem. I used to be blonde too.

My tea pot (actually just my coffee pot that is for tea only, DW has her own coffee pot) is (guessing) a 1993 model. During the brew process, it leaks tea which goes onto the warming plate and also to the counter top. There is a stain of either tea or heat damage on the countertop. I have a tea mess every day to clean up. I am ready to get rid of this thing. Guess it is time to look at old threads for coffee pot suggestions.

Now this would drive me crazy. I'd have thrown the thing from the balcony by now. Especially since I've got a white Corian countertop and it stains very easily.

I bought a nice Cuisinart coffee maker at home with a steel carafe. No more breaking the glass carafe and having to throw the whole thing away because I can't find the right replacement size.

I bring my own 4 cup perculator on vacation with us as long as I can fit it in.

That used to happen with my Braun every once in a while. I wouldn't get the filter set just right and an entire pot of coffee with grinds would be all over the kitchen floor.

Luckily it died a while ago.

Yep, it happens all the time to me and it's quite annoying. It's usually because I don't put the coffee pot on the base correctly and the little stopper that prevents coffee from coming out when the pot is off remained closed. The water gets trapped in the filter area and overflows. Coffee and grounds all over the place. I hate when that happens.

Now here's an idea. Do they still sell perculators?

This is what we do as well. Even at our home resort where there are already 2 coffee makers per unit, we still drag ours along.

Yes! And I have one, too, and I love it. You can get an electric one (which is what I have) or a stovetop one (too easy to forget). I have a Farberware eight-cup model. It makes really good, strong coffee, without bitterness.

I'll have to see if they make a 4 cup travel one. THanks for the idea. It's too much to drag my coffee maker & carafe with me on vacation unless I'm driving. I'm gonna check ebay to see if there is a new one out there.

Never had a problem until about a year ago at a timeshare and have had the problem twice in different locations since. It is always the same type of coffee pot. Now I watch it until it gets going. It happens in the start and if I notice it is going right I'm able to fix it right away. Never run into this at home.

I've never done it on vacation but have done it in my own house at 5:30 in the morning...I needed my coffee before I made it!!
