Hi, Jim. We have a studio next summer for just me and the DH, but I'm on the lookout for a larger unit sometime after that so we can take the kids. I've read conflicting things about whether the one bedroom holds 4 or 5. I think on RCI Points, it shows that it holds 4, but on Redweek rentals many of the ads say they'll sleep 5.

I don't want to book one and find out I can't fit all of us. Can you give me your opinion about whether the one bedroom accommodates 5? We have (right now) 10, 8, and 5 year old kids plus me and husband. I know it wouldn't be the kind of space we're used to in our 2 bedroom timeshares, but for NY, it is worth it!

Both the Studio unit and the 1 bedroom can sleep 5.TMC will Provide a rollaway cot when ask, some of the studio units ane larger than some 1 bedroom,
If you do not get a 1 bedroom and want to take the children one or two days befor check in call and request a L shape Studio and a cot.the L shape Studio will give you privicey from the living area,and once you let TMC know that there will be 2 adults and 3 children, they will normaly give you a bigger unit,just try to get there about 3:30 to 4:30 pm (1st come gets larger units)
Take the kids, if possible they will love NYC

I am glad to hear that you love New York City. We were there last year for a couple weeks and we loved it. We stayed 1 week at the Manhattan Club and the rest of the time at the Michelangelo deluxe hotel on 51st between 6th and 7th avenues. Actually we preferred the Michelangelo where we had a suite.

If you have time, do one of the boat tours. I also recommend doing the 4 tours on the "Hop on Hop off" busses. You will get to see a lot of the city plus Brooklyn, Harlem, etc., and a night tour. You can do all 4 tours for only $10 more than doing a single tour.

We skipped Mamma Mia because we had seen it in Las Vegas at the Mandalay Bay but we did see Chicago and Damn Yankees.

I have already requested the Manhattan Club for next summer. If we don't get it, we are still going and will stay in the Michelangelo for the whole time.

I like San Francisco and have been there many, many times having lived in the SF Bay area. However, we love New York and there is no comparison. I liked to just stand on the corner of 51st and 7th looking toward Time Square and watching the people and flashing signs.

We have Manhattan Club in our plans for next summer! I'm excited to hear that you love it!

We love the Manhattan Club for its location and because we can exchange there. Most of the rooms need the full remodel that you'll see on the presentation tour. (Our room always feels extra shabby after the tour.)

What we really love is the city itself. And the people there too, of course. People like bigfrank and the whole NYC-area TS4MS/OY timesharers.

If you liked Mamma Mia you should definitely try to see Jersey Boys on this trip or in the future. Maybe you can catch on tour in another city, I saw it last month and I am still tapping my feet!

What is the deal with so many places only taking cash? I don't remember this when I lived nearby.

Is it a tax thing? Or, a merchant rate thing?

Are you finding this at restaurants? I find that alot of mom and pop eateries are doing this to avoid the merchant fees imposed by the CC companies.

3) TKTS
4) Peter Lugar's (well haven't been there yet)
5) Concierge for US Open tickets (reasonable)
6) All street vendors (reasonable)
7) Subway tickets (to be honest, I paid cash, but don't recall if credit was possible).
8) Taxis

The only place I used my credit card is at the Manhattan Club, Box office for Westside story and Redeye. When paying the check at Redeye, I asked the waiter if they still took credit cards.

It was really surprising how many places only took cash.

The only place we paid cash was Carnegie Deli, Subway, street vendors, and some taxis. Some taxis took credit cards such as the taxi from the airport. The Carnegie Deli was somewhat of a shock as I didn't realize that they only took cash until I was at the checkout after we ate. Fortunately we had enough cash. They should mark it better so you know it is cash only before ordering anything. However, we loved the Carnegie Deli and went back several times.

I should clarify the taxi thing. I didn't use a medallion service. I used an unlicensed cab from Newark to New York. That really doesn't count.

I did take a cab to Lombardi's. I paid cash, but I didn't ask or check to see if they took credit cards.

Anyway, it still surprised me how many merchants required cash vs. credit card. I am wondering if it is just me. Or, did something change? Or, was it always like this?

I remember that Europe used to be cash only in most places in the 80's. Now, they seem to take credit cards everywhere.

To my knowledge TKTS takes credit cards. If they don't that's a change.
