I dunno--when I go to NYC, I'm always amazed at the places that DO take credit cards. Like little delis where I'm buying one muffin and a cup of coffee! That said, Peter Luger and Carnegie Deli are two of the least user-friendly restaurants in New York--they're both noted for their gruff customer service. They might not take credit cards just to be difficult.

TKTS does take credit cards, at least according to their website.

I agree that customer service at the Carnegie Deli has a lot of room for improvement.

They take debit cards, but not credit cards. The woman in front of me had to leave the line to get cash from an ATM.

          3) TKTS
          4) Peter Lugar's (well haven't been there yet)
          5) Concierge for US Open tickets (reasonable)
          6) All street vendors (reasonable)
          7) Subway tickets (to be honest, I paid cash, but don't recall if credit was possible).
          8) Taxis

The only place I used my credit card is at the Manhattan Club, Box office for Westside story and Redeye. When paying the check at Redeye, I asked the waiter if they still took credit cards.

It was really surprising how many places only took cash.
You can use your CC at the Metro Card vending machines. The window clerks don't handle CC's. I think Peter Lugar has their own exclusive CC line. I remember last time I went to TKTS I needed to use cash.

I am at Peter Luger right now as I type this message. The verdict is in...it's over rated. I had to find out for myself. We got the porterhouse for 2 with creamed spinach and fries. ThAt's all they have at lunch. It was good. But not anywhere near the best Ive ever had.

We are waiting for struedel. Looks really good.

They do take Peter Luger credit cards only.

Maybe her credit card had been declined?

                    Jim,

I've always wanted to go to Peter Lugers. You may have saved me a trip. I trust your judgment.

8/30 was your only chance to see a game at the new Yankee stadium....are you going to go to Citifield to see the Mets lose another...they are back home this Friday?

If you still have time be sure to hit Angelo's Wood Fired Pizza over on 57th for one of the best NYC pizzas we've ever had.

I've always been treated nicely in NYC. Of course, it was without the B baseball cap !

                            That's possible.

I did ask when I saw others trying to use cards. They said that they took debit cards. Maybe they do take credit cards and there is so much bad info out there that people are getting confused in line.

Interesting (and somewhat embarrassing) side note. I took several subway trains that I had never taken before, especially the J, M, Z line to Brooklyn. I got so twisted around in the train station that I couldn't tell which way was uptown so I almost got on the wrong train.

Then, I busted out my handy dandy iPhone compass. It told me which way was north and therefore which way was toward Brooklyn.

I finally found a use for that application. It's for tourists in New York who can't figure out which way is which in the subways. That can save you from taking the wrong train in the wrong direction.
