Interesting (and somewhat embarrassing) side note. I took several subway trains that I had never taken before, especially the J, M, Z line to Brooklyn. I got so twisted around in the train station that I couldn't tell which way was uptown so I almost got on the wrong train.

Then, I busted out my handy dandy iPhone compass. It told me which way was north and therefore which way was toward Brooklyn.

I finally found a use for that application. It's for tourists in New York who can't figure out which way is which in the subways. That can save you from taking the wrong train in the wrong direction.

or a New Yorker would happily help out!

Wish I had that ap in London though. I got turned around on the underground more times than you can imagine, to my frustration.

Actually I believe it was the D to A. We were on our way to the stadium. All I know is that the guy I mentioned above grabbed us by the arm and led us to the one going the other way that was stopped waiting.

The A doesn't go to Yankee Stadium--it goes all the way north on the West Side. I take it to the George Washington Bridge Port Authority at 178th St.

Boca, don't feel bad about getting turned around on the subway. Last year I thought I was on a northbound A and I was really on a northbound (and then eastbound) D. And I've ridden that A train only about a zillion times.

I used to play softball on a company league in McCoombs Dam Park which neighbored Yankee stadium. I think that may have gone by the wayside with the new stadium.

We didn't meet many New Yorkers that had a gruff personality but we certainly met a lot that were very helpful and friendly. One day we were looking for a particular restaurant that we couldn't find as it was in a hotel. I had the address. In any event there was a store owner standing in the door of his business. We asked him where it was and he not only told us but walked us down a block to where it was. We had many many other examples of people going out of their way to help us. Our waitress we had at Carnegie Deli was about 70 and she fit the stereotypical New Yorker to a tee. But under that gruff exterior was a marvelous lady with a really sharp wit. We really enjoyed her.

We got to see the Yankees in the house that Ruth built. Next year we will see them in the new stadium. I can't wait to go back to New York. Normally, we don't like to visit a place more than once but I don't think we would ever get tired of New York.

One thing we didn't do was go to a bakery to get some good bagels. The only ones we had were at the continental breakfast at the Manhattan Club. Where is the best place in Manhattan for bagels?

There used to be a place on the east side. Ess a bagel. I will have to research this one. Don't spend much time in Manhattan anymore since I work up in the North Country.

I agree about New York, except as a lifelong Dodger fan who got his heart taken away so many times in the 70's by those evil Bronx bombers. I'll always hate them.

The old iPhone doesn't have that feature and I certainly could use it but I am not ready to buy the new one yet. Send us some pictures with your iPhone or regular camera of NYC or the park or are you too busy Jim? That is possible in New York.

What I really enjoyed there were the Jazz concerts after the shows. I liked Jazz at Lincoln Center better than the Blue Note. That was too loud for me. Glitter Brunello recommended JALC and she was right.
