At intermission for West Side Story. Unbelievable! Tony is perfectly cast and Maria has an angelic voice. Now I know why yu really don't see many productions of this musical. Hardly anyonehas the range required to sing Maria's part. And the orchestra could rarely be played by a high school ensemble.
This musical represents my romanticized version of New York growing up as a kid in california

I was always enamoured with the thought of stoops, brownstones, and playing stick ball in the street. Walking to school, the bakery, or the deli. I always wanted to have a history like it seemed everyone in NYC was provided. I had to "settle" for being a Southern Californian. It always seemed less than.
My Mother was born in NYC and lived there for her early childhood-but she really has no recollection of much during that time.
I've only visited once-but I know I'll be back.

By the way, the Puerto Rican singers sang mostly in Spanish adding more to the reality of the performance.

I had to look up Josephina Scaglione since this Maria blew me away with her vocals.
She is Argentinian and an Opera Singer. No wonder she could hit notes I've never heard before in a musical.
I've Just Met a Girl Named Josefina
Here are Matt Cavenaugh and Josephina Scaglione. Listen and enjoy:

OK now I have GOT to see this!
DH would ask me why I would be in tears after the umpty-umpth viewing on TV of the movie version. Why watch if it made me cry? Just like a Wonderful life reduces me to tears each christmas.
Westside Story has not been on broadway live in my memory.Lawren

Just got back from "Burn the Floor." Two words, "Pure, Energy." If you love high energy ballroom dancing, this is it.
The draw for me was Pasha and Anya from "So you think you can dance." That marketing certainly worked.
Stopped by the box office for Jersey Boys. I could have gotten cancellation tickets. Otherwise, it's standing room only. He told me to come back at 5 pm tomorrow. If it's available, we are going.
