Okay, I'm back. 12 miles. 2 laps around the outer road. Finished in 2:23. Just under 12 min mile pace. That was an incredible run. Reminded me a lot of Vancouver. I can't believe I lived in New Jersey for 14 years and went to school in New York for 2 years and I never did that. Just took New Jersey transit to Penn Station and 1,2 3 line uptown every day. Just bypassed the park. What a waste.
It was one of most beautiful runs I've done. There are hundreds, even thousands of runners. Almost all of them were running at a much faster pace than me. I'd say most were running 8-10 minute mile pace. Very fast runners. New Yorkers are fit. At least the ones running in the park at night.
It was very safe. So many runners, no way to get blindsided unless it's really late at night, I guess.
I'll do it again on Wednesday. Very fun. But, I am sore. I probably went 2 miles more than I should have today, but I wanted to finish.
Now, we go out for guilt free Italian. Burned about 1500 calories. Mmm, mmm , good. I can't wait. I wonder how much pasta I can eat?
OK I'm happy you survived! Though I really had no doubt about a broad daylight run, however a broad daylight run in Central Park when you were a grad student would not have been as guaranteed.
Enjoy the "free" carbs and calories.
another terrific park done on the same scale is Golden Gate in SFO. Loved it there.

I was there from 1986 to 1988. Was it unsafe at that time?

I forget the age difference. No by that time things had become much safer. It was the late 70's to early 80's when no one would or could go there safely at any time of day.
