The good news is school is back in session here in the lower Hudson Valley of New York. There is something to be said for having the house to myself 7 hours a day. I get a lot more done around here!
The bad news is it just took 2.5 hours to buy the school supplies. I don't understand why the district does this. In elementary school next year's supply requirements came home with the last report card. This gave you the opportunity to wait for sales and pick things up a little at a time. Once they hit middle and high school the list comes home the first day. So I and every other mother in the district are out fighting over folders/binders/calculators, etc. The school wants all the kids to have all their supplies when they walk in tomorrow morning.
This year wasn't horrible. I had already purchased the obvious things. Last year was the $110 calculator year which truly annoyed me. Given enough time I'm sure I could have gotten a better deal on ebay or with an on-line coupon.
There should be a district requirement that these supply lists are sent home in July or published on the school website.
