  • I just saved $45/month on my DirecTV bill

the thought process started when a cablevision salesman pulled into my driveway last week. I blew him off as I have had personal dealings with the Dolan family and to put things in a polite manner I don't care to do business with them.

Verizon keeps calling to offer all 3 services, internet/phones/TV, for the price of two for six months. I already have internet and phone.

So I call DirecTV to cancel my service with them prepared to go to Fios as it would save me about $50/month. I get a superb rep who knocks us down to Select, which is a new package they are offering at $30/month (it's pretty basic but our needs aren't huge on the TV side), gives me free HD ( currently $10/month) and free Showtime for 3 months.

Monthly combined billing for 3 services goes from $170/month to $125/month.

Mission accomplished and I don't have to hang around all day for an installer.

I think it would be in your best interest to call them Frank. There is competition out there and they realize it....

I have called and threatened to leave. Best they do is add a $10 monthly discount for 6 months and get free HD.

                Lawren,

                Good for you!

I just changed from Fios to Cablevision, and saved quite a bit a month, too. It's definitely worth checking out the various offerings. I agree with Lawren, they're all in a price war.

If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.

BTW, I'm still keeping track of how many times you annoy me.

What a way to reward a loyal customer.

I wish I could use satellite here but it rains so much I had to cancel my dish network because you can't watch it in the rain. Back to the monopoly of Comcast unfortunately we don't have any competition between cable companies.

We have a lot of rain here too. Does it take a hard rain for it to go out or does a light rain knock it out? I live in south Louisiana...south of New Orleans.

You can usually see something with drizzle if the clouds are not too thick but it pours so much in Florida that just when you want to watch your favorite show it is sure to blocked by the rain. It happened to me most of the summer and into November until I finally went back to cable after 2 years of getting pissed at missing my shows.

Direct TV called us to offer the premium movie channels, HBO, etc. for an extra $2.00/month for five months, but I have to remember to cancel it after that; they wouldn't let me cancel it in advance.

If you must have NFL football, DirecTV is the only way to go, as it has a monopoly on the games.

That said, I get high-speed internet, digital phone and TV with most of the premium channels (everything except CineMAX) for $185 a month via Verizon FIOS.

AT & T is now offering Uverse in my area so hopefully we'll see some competition from the cable company but don't anyone who has tried it yet. Should work better here than satellite since it uses the DSL lines I believe.

Anyone have experience with Dish Network? They are offering a pretty good price right now, and I am so unhappy with the current Directv DVR that I would switch just to get rid of that thing.

Emails to DirecTV have done no good.

Customer service is very big with me right now, and some companies that are failing me are going to be loosing my business. That includes DirecTV and Discover Card.

                              So...How about Dish Network?
