  • I'm Being Laid Off!!

Yippee! My end date is Nov. 27. I have worked for the bank for 23 yrs. I will get paid until the end of January, 2011. I knew there were going to be layoffs, so I told my manager I really wanted to retire. I got my wish as did 2 of my colleagues. Of course, even though I got what I wanted, I am sad to be leaving too. I will miss so many of the people I have worked with and I know this is a very big change in my life.

Wow, that's great that you get paid for over a year. Have fun while you are off. Here's to a great start into your next endeavor.

Fabulous!! I know how you feel about missing your co workers. Do you get to keep your health insurance? That's the only thing I worried about when I went out on disability and it worked out for me. Now you can play!! shaggy

That is great, I had a buyout - one year to start my retirement back in May of 2005. I have never looked back and enjoyed the free year and the retirement years afterwards. Have fun and enjoy!

Yes, still get medical and then I can get Cobra for 18 months after that. I will be 5 months shy of Medicare by then so it's a pretty good deal. I should say this is what I understand the package is but I won't see all the docs until tomorrow.

I saw your title and though, "oh, that's a shame". Then I read the content and now I'm very for you. Enjoy your retirement - or whatever you'll be doing after you leave.

Congratulations!! You did the company and at least one person who needed a job a favor, too.

I have a friend at a large company that was offering similar "lay-off packages" to relatively senior staff. So many took them up on the offer, they had to rescind a portion of them.
