    Pat,

Congratulations! I am so happy for you. When I read the thread title I thought "oh no!" I'm glad it is a good thing!

Now you can move into your new HH home! Good for you!

Glad to hear it worked to your benefit. Just curious, if you get "laid off", then can you actually collect retirement wages? Hope we see you soon in Sun City.

Congratulations Pat...I love a happy chapter (I won't say ending, as there are many more stories to tell!) Good luck with the winding down!

It feels strange, but congratulation. Nice to be able to set your own time table. It is greater now you can actually phase out.

My company is providing packages based on length of service. Mine is 14 months.
Pat, this is wonderful as it is what you had hoped for.

You can always stay in touch with the people you will miss the most from your work. What is so nice is that you can travel any time of the year now when it isn't so busy. I had read your news on Facebook but only found it here just now while trying to catch up.

Enjoy that retirement and your new home!

I knew there were going to be layoffs, so I told my manager I really wanted to retire. I got my wish as did 2 of my colleagues. Of course, even though I got what I wanted, I am sad to be leaving too. I will miss so many of the people I have worked with and I know this is a very big change in my life.
That is great. I did a similar thing in 1995 except I did it so I could spend all my time on my own business. The company I was working for had a huge layoff in 1995 with a very attractive severance package. I wasn't in any danger of getting laid off but I volunteered for it. At first they didn't want to let me do it but they reluctantly agreed. It worked out very well and I am now retired.

Congratulations Pat. Wow, leaving a job after 23 years, that's an enormous change. You were obviously happy with the job to stay with the same firm for so long. I sought and accepted a package to leave a job I had held for 12years and remember the roller coaster of feelings well. In the end, it was the 'people' I missed the most, some were like family. Hopefully, you have lots of exciting plans to keep yourself busy initially. Congrats again.

I can't collect my pension until 2/2011 when the severance is over.

When are you moving to SCHH? I probably won't get there full time until late Spring. I still have to furnish it and get all new stuff like dishes, silverware, etc. What I need is a Relocation Shower!

There were times when I wasn't very happy over the years but the last 15 yrs or so haven't been bad. Most of the time I was a single Mom with 3 kids so I never felt I had the luxury to leave. I don't like change either and now not only am I leaving my job but I'm going to move away from the Northeast where I have lived my entire life! Most of family is here too. OMG, what was I thinking? I'm scared to death but very excited at the same time.

                        Pat,
You'll love it. Consider the move an opportunity. Sun City will be a great place to spend the next decades of your life. I know.

I've been somewhat (ok, a lot) out of commission lately. Living here has really helped. Friends and neighbors have run errands for me, shopped, and more. They offer. I don't even have to ask. And of course, I do the same when I can.
