How do I find out how much silver is in a vinatage sterling silver flatware set I own?

Sterling silver is by definition 92.5% silver and 7.5% other metal, typically copper.

It should be marked with the maker and pattern. Or at the very least the maker.

You should be able to check with the maker ie Gorham...

The maker is TOWLE and the pattern is Royal Windsor. There is also en emblem that looks like a crown. It also says Pat. 1935. I did a search for Towle but cannot find a website for them. Maybe they're not around anymore?

Replacements LTD

The maker is TOWLE and the pattern is Royal Windsor. There is also en emblem that looks like a crown. It also says Pat. 1935. I did a search for Towle but cannot find a website for them. Maybe they're not around anymore?

I own a discontinued Gorham pattern and can buy things thru e-bay or www.replacements.com

Would I get more for it selling it on Ebay or selling it to someone who buys it for the silver. The total weight is 5 lbs. How do I know how much of the 5 lbs. is silver? I hope I'm asking that correctly!

I think ebay would be better than selling it for the silver alone. There are collectors for many of these patterns.

I have sterling gorham napkin rings that regularly go for $150 each on ebay....

check the completed auctions for an idea of what it will fetch if you sell the set.
