nephew getting commissioned in the AF

My nephew is graduating college and getting commissioned as an officer into the Air Force the same day. I don't want to go. It's a 4.5 hour drive, I'll spend about $300 for the weekend, my kids don't want to go, and I'll miss Mother's Day with my kids, plus I am not close to him. Am I being a bad Aunt? My sister seems to be upset with me. Sometimes I just hate having relatives.

You have to ask your self 1 question. How would you feel if the family did not show up to your event. Which BTW may happen if you do not go to this event. If you had not said anything you could have gotten sick just before you had to go.

Why can't you just tell your sister that you can't go because your kids want to spend Mother's Day with you. After all YOUR family and their wishes should come first. IF she is upset, she'll get over it.

WOW! What and acheivement. If you don't go at least call this young person and tell he how proud you are of what he has done. His sight is probaly set on getting to his first duty station.
