  • Finally, I'm Walking a Bit

Well, I went to the doctor's yesterday. After 4 months, I'm finally walking on my own again, sort of. I still have to wear the walking boot, and I'm only to walk small amounts at a time. I will build up to more walking/weight bearing every day for two weeks. Then I'll be able to switch off to a shoe for an hour or two, and build that up over the next two weeks, until I am walking in a shoe full time a month from now.

When the doctor told me that, I made a face and told him I had hoped to be able to drive, since Jerry really isn't suppose to with his broken shoulder. The doctor told me that as long as I walked to the car in my boot, I could get in the car, change to a shoe, drive, and then put the boot back on before I get out of the car. HURRAH! Its a lot of trouble, but worth it.

Its been a long haul, but at least I can see the end coming...

I broke my foot on May 25th. When it didn't heal, I had surgery on August 5. The doctor was going to put in a screw, but the bone cracked, and he had to put in a plate and four pins. Its been a long haul.

To top things off, Jerry broke his shoulder August 12, then had a severe reaction to pain meds with paramedics and a three day hospital stay. After that he needed surgery too. He's now coping with physical therapy for the next twelve weeks or so.

I am happy for you Don't try to speed the healing process. It will come fully recovered when it is ready.

                            Fern,

I am so sorry to hear that you have been going through this. I completely emphathize. It is even more difficult for you as it was your driving foot.

Take it slow and heal completely. Although it is hard as you are getting a little taste of freedom please don't push to hard. A setback you don't want or need.
