  • Hubby had his heart surgery today

Hi. I am waiting to get in to see Mike at 5pm. The surgeon said the operation was uneventful. She repaired the aneurysm but they tested the valve and it was working fine so they did not need to replace it. It should last as long as it would have should they have implanted an animal valve. So that is good news.
He is on a ventilator and has numerous monitoring tubes coming out of him. He is really pale and his body temp is still cool (they keep it cold in the OR) but all his vitals and stats are within normal limits. He could wiggle his toes when the nurse asked, but couldn't squeeze my hand yet.
He'll be in the unit for a couple of days, then transferred to telemetry, then home within a week where I will take care of him like no one else can LOL.
Thanks to all of you for your support with this, I appreciate it.

So glad to hear that the operation went well. Never easy for family to have someone in the hospital, but very much appreciated for the patient to have the family there.

"uneventful" is the best kind of surgery, for sure. So glad to hear all went well. Will keep you and Mike in my thoughts.

Wonderful news Jacki. He'll probably feel as if he were run over by a truck for a few weeks. Nothing like a skilled nurse for free. I hope his recovery is fast.

Jacki, I am glad that everything went well for Mike and I hope that he will make a fast recovery from here on. You need some rest too, I am sure.

Thanks everyone. He came off the vent earlier this evening and is doing well with all the stats on all his many many monitors and tubes.
Dr. McLarty from Stony Brook did it. Mike liked her manner and had a lot of confidence in her, which means a lot.

Thanks for taking time to let us know how Mike is doing, and for giving us all a chance to send you lots of cyberhugs and support. We are all pulling for a fast and wonderful recovery...one for the record books. And yes, when you can, while he is in hospital, get some rest yourself.

So glad to hear Jackie. My father went through the same thing a few years ago....he's never felt better. Hugs to you both.

Hi. Mike was transferred out of ICU already! His arterial lines and chest tubes were pulled. He's on a telemetry floor but they are going to give him one of the portable monitors so he can start walking tomorrow. I washed him up a bit tonight, changed his gown and he feels like a new man.
He should be home in 4 to 5 days and I won't have to worry about that damn aneurysm bursting on him and leaving me an early widow.
