But every few days, he seems to perk up and have coherent conversations with people who visit. We know that he's not going to get better, but it's hard to see him go back and forth like this. It's so hard to watch someone you love slip away so slowly. My own father died very suddenly in the middle of the night. He simply didn't wake up. As hard as that was, we knew he died very peacefully. Wish we could all go that way.
    I understand your pain. Last year I was in Atlanta at my sister-in-laws hospital bed. The whole family was there. My wife (her sister) arrived there earlier. Me and our son arrived two days later. When we walked into the room she looked at my son and said Hi Larry. She hadn't spoken in two days.

    We watched that damn monitor for another day, hoping for a miracle. It came down to removing her off the heart saving drugs. There was truely no hope. We were all there.

    We were all there holding her hand and stroking her face when she left us. Very peaceful, with loving family all around. I see her everytime we go to Cancun. She taught my grandson how to swim there. She touched so many people.
