  • Prayers, please

My father-in-law is in the hospital with stage 4 liver cirrhosis. He also has heart failure and kidney failure. We have accepted that time is drawing for him to pass on and he says he is ready. Please keep him in your prayers that he doesn't suffer and passes peacefully. THANKS TO ALL.

My prayers are with him and his family. My mother passed away a little over a month ago and I know your pain. I know she is in a better place now.

Hello everyone. Thanks so much for all your thoughts and prayers. It's tough right now. Most of the time he's sleeping or incoherent. But every few days, he seems to perk up and have coherent conversations with people who visit. We know that he's not going to get better, but it's hard to see him go back and forth like this. It's so hard to watch someone you love slip away so slowly. My own father died very suddenly in the middle of the night. He simply didn't wake up. As hard as that was, we knew he died very peacefully. Wish we could all go that way.

If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.

BTW, I'm still keeping track of how many times you annoy me.

My dad died very slowly, deteriorating over the course of 3 years, and finally going after becoming non-verbal, non-mobile, and with a feeding tube inserted (off topic - everyone make sure you have a health care proxy!). Even when he finally passed, and although it was a blessing, it was very painful. But we had time to grieve before his passing and make it "right".
My father-in-law, on the other hand, suffered a cardiac arrest and died on the front lawn while he was raking. Although we knew he did not suffer, the pain for the family was unbearable, knowing that he died alone and without having the opportunity to say goodbye.
So although you are suffering now, in the long run this may prove to be less painful to you, knowing you are making his final days more comfortable and letting him know he is loved.
So sorry you are going through this.
