  • Oct is Breast Cancer Awarness Month.....

October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month and many of the female members of TS4M's have changed their avatar in honor of those suffering from Breast Cancer here on TS4M's, and elsewhere, as well.

The National Breast Cancer Awareness Month (NBCAM) program is dedicated to increasing awareness about the importance of the early detection of breast cancer through a nationwide campaign held in October. NBCAM started as a weeklong campaign in 1985 with 2 founding members. Today the American Cancer Society is one of many national public service organizations, professional associations, and government agencies that form the NBCAM Board of Sponsors. During NBCAM, the member organizations of the Board of Sponsors join forces to spread the message that early detection of breast cancer followed by prompt treatment saves lives.
Here are a few links for anyone looking for more info on Breast Cancer awareness, programs, early detection, getting help, etc........

The American Cancer Society programs that are available to achieve these goals include: ACS :: National Breast Cancer Awareness Month

    I'm in

Please ladies, and guys who have ladies in their lives nudge them too --- go for those mammos yearly.
Early detection is the key - take it from me.
Thanks to ever increasingly better technology, my mammo showed precancerous cells 5 years ago, the kind that turn to cancer 95% of the time. I hate to think what might have been had I not caught and removed those buggers as early as I did.

Have any of you ladies joined the Army of Women? Please go to their website and volunteer, and give my name, Pat Marks as a referral. I have not been able to be in any of the research projects, but my sisters signed up for one project for sisters of breast cancer survivors.
You may be leaving those avatars up for quite a while as breast cancers caused by estrogen or progesterin are treated for 5 to 7 years.

I went for my mammogram on Friday. I, too, will keep this avatar until Bezerk
is finished her treatments and gets a clean report. I know that there are several breast cancer survivors on the bbs and my tribute is to all of you. My mother and 1 sister were survivors, 1 sister did not survive this terrible disease.

do you know the size of one cancer cell?

one million cancer cells will fit on the tip of a pin. They are very hard to detect.

I am so touched and I too pray for all who suffer with any cancer. I am shedding tears of happiness at the kindness and support shown here.

This week has been bad emotionally so this support cannot come at a better time...Thanks my friends.

                          Thanks Pat

Thanks Pat for The Army of Women link. I did sign up; no research for me right now but perhaps in the future.

On a related note, I also joined the National Bone Marrow Registry. Too many people die of blood cancers/lymphoma each year while waiting and hoping for a match . (You don't necessarily have to give stem cells from your marrow, they can also use blood for some things.)

I just returned to florida to discover my next door neighbor will not be down this year due to breast cancer. She is in her 70's, she discovered a lump, turned out to be the size of a golf ball. The lumpectomy showed it had gone to several nodes, she is undergoing chemo, will do a double mastectomy and radiation. choose to stay in the Boton area for all her treatment.

My first wife had breast cancer. That was back in '89 or '90 I think. I can't remember back that far. She was not in good shape before it and in worse shape after. I remember that during Chemo, she would chew ice chips all the time. Dr said it had something to do with her blood, she was anemic after the chemo.
