The tuition is raising 6.6% this year on avg. on the other hand, the grant/aid amount seems up too (isn't this pretty bad that we teach the college student that expect to be supported?)

Certainly wish they will come up a prepay plan for all College. That will simply most of the life.

With the possible high inflation rate in horizontal, it will be tougher.

Will be interesting to see what TS' MF raise rate this year.

Yikes Frank! Did he get any aid to help with that? I thought dd's at around $40,000 was bad, but at least the school gave her a pretty good merit award.

WOW! My freshman year was ~$3,300 many moons ago. Stevens used to be on of the least expensive private college when others were charging over $4,000.

I am not talking $53K to dorm I am talking $53k to dorm with School. $8K is what I think I pay just to dorm for the year which is cheap

I was just thinking the same thing! The 529 isn't going to go far at those rates...maybe community college for 2 years isn't such a bad idea. I can live in the northeast for a few years longer I guess.

Many of my sons friends are going to local state collages and at the last year plan on transferring to a better School to get the Diploma from there.

Florida has a pre-pay plan. DH and I took his bonus 7 years ago and bought DD four years of university education plus fees. We decided against pre-paying for a dorm as we have other ideas on handling that cost. Just wish we could have pre-paid for text books as well!

In the past 2-3 years FL colleges were given the approval to add about 40% more on top of tuition fees for other fees. Those that had already bought the pre-paid are exempt from that addtional fee - so far anyway.

Buying that pre-paid college thing was probably the smartest thing DH and I ever did. Even if something happens to us, DD has that huge help in securing her future by haivng a large part of the cost already paid for.

Many colleges require that the student take at least 60 hours at that school to receive a diploma so they are looking at least 2 years

I think those plan changed. Now they will pay the weighed avg tuition and some Mandatory fee based on the attend school.

So there are 11 school in FL. Their avg tuition is like say $8000, if your kids decide not attend them, they will pay you based on that tuition, plus the Mandatory preset amount. So unless that state's school goes much slower than other state, you should be able to get covered as in-state cost.

Plus FL has 11 school much better than MD's one
