today was the first time since mid-June 2008 that I have ridden. For those of you who know me that has been a huge black hole in my life. I've been around horses for 37 years and that fluke accident laid me up for 8 months. Riding weighed heavily on my mind. Not that the accident occurred riding it didn't.
So my good buddies decided I was going today. Not on a short trail ride mind you but a hunter pace. Presented that we would just do the hilltoping class. That's a walk/trot take your time ride. Would work for me riding my friend's little buckskin and my friend was using another friend's 4 year old that she's only ridden 9 times.
Of course we get up there and say....nah. Open division for us which is quite competetive and fast paced.
Had one dicey downhill jump but the rest was all smiles! Some nice hand gallops and a few smaller jumps. HEAVEN!
12 miles at just under 2 hours. Have no idea yet how we placed yet. My ankle held up real well. It was the rest of the unused muscle groups that were howling by the end. Not even sure how I got off that horse.
I know I'll pay physically for this one but damn it's great to be in the saddle again.
Last pace is the Thanksgiving one and I'm already excited about it.
