I loved it in 3D in the little theatre. Today we paid an extra $3 per ticket to see it in IMAX and it was worth it for the lack of the previews alone But, really, it was even more awesome in IMAX. Even on a Tuesday at 6 pm, so long after opening, the shows are sold out online well in advance. We got there a half hour early and just managed to sit together.

You are correct in that they weren't technically "military," but I gather that was a pandering ploy driven by marketing. The mercenaries provided a bit more than security and they mimicked the military pretty well, at (the very) least in appearance... Could also be viewed as just capitalism v. nature (and/or humanity)... They don't call it Pandora for nothing, not that I give the writers that much credit...

Or the same way that the Fantastic Mr. Fox movie might be considered anti-farmer.

It's a great piece of animated fiction. Groundbreaking film. I could care less about the story, it's an experience.

It's definitely anti "gung-ho, insensitive idiot." There is one military guy and one corporate guy who's like that. Obviously, the idiots are giving orders, so the people who listen to them follow orders. If you believe that the military is typically made up of gung ho, insensitive idiots, then you will think that the movie is anti-military. I personally think that it isn't, so I did not see an anti-military attitude in the movie.

Thank you Avery for your recommendation.
I am a cheapskate (do I buy plane tickets or a new car? ) who does not often go to the movies as the price annoys me and DH does not care to go.
I was in NYC visiting DD and DS so purchased the 3D IMAX tickets from fandango ahead of time - total $61.50 (a one way ticket from ISP to MCO!)

Holy cow was this a great experience! I was a little afraid of feeling motion sick and the person next to me had a JUMBO bag of that greasy movie popcorn which kinda stinks so at one point when they were racing around on those bird things I had to close my eyes....but the visuals were fantastic. I could not believe 2 and 3/4 hours had passed when it was over.

It was SO worth the extra money to see this in the Imax theatre...basic good versus evil theme....just very, very cool.

Go see it (except for Luanne - I heard she is on the "Do not Fly" list) and spring for the IMAX.

You got that right. Saw "Crazy Heart" today. Jeff Bridges was wonderful. Dh even said if all country music was like what they were playing in the movie, he'd be a country fan.

Alrighty then. You are on a different frequency entirely

Pat, I'm so glad you liked it, though I'm not sure I'd trade a plane ticket for it. Then again, it's about as long as the flight to MCO and more entertaining for the duration...

There is NOOOOO comparison - those blue creatures were very sensual, graceful....okay, this is a family board especially compared to the pauchy alcoholic you fancy.

I think you're still on steady ground, Pat. A quote from a friend: "Is it acceptable to fancy an alien? Yes." Still G rated.
