Does anyone else watch Big Love besides me?
I’m not quite sure what to think of this show, but I do find it interesting and I am addicted to the show. I’m just curious what other people think of this show.

My wife watches it and so does my SIL, BIL and MIL. I watched only about 2 minutes of it so far and would like to watch more.

I got hooked the first time I caught a few minutes of it while channel surfing...interesting and well done.

I also watch it, though not every week. I am torn between finding it degrading to women and thinking it'd be great to have an extra wife or two around to help with the kids, etc... I haven't been able to really get a handle on what's going on between Mr. Big Love and Roman and the shady dealings involved. My DH tried to watch it a few weeks ago, he hated it. Chalked up to another show "about heinous people doing heinous thing to other heinous people." A polygamist's Desperate Housewives, perhaps?

I've been watching it also. It is interesting to me to learn about the Mormon customs, and is entertaining with the same non-funtional type family as Six Feet Under. I think the finale is in a week or two. Seems like it just started.

What you are seeing is an extreme sect that broke away from the conventional Mormon religion. Polygamy is not sanctioned by the main stream Mormons.

I realize that polygamy is no longer sanctioned. I was referring to the customs of dress, celebrations, and baptism by lowering in water. I don't know if these are still practiced or not, but found them interesting.

I've been watching it since it started, and enjoy the characters, although I don't for the life of me see what Bill Paxton's character sees in his second wife, Nicky. She is selfish, dishonest and manipulative, and is the cause of most of the problems between the three wives.

Also don't understand what anyone gets out of the arrangement. The women are constantly fighting their tendencies toward possessiveness toward their man, and have to deal without their husband two out of three nights. The husband has to put up with the petty squabbling, trying to please three different women on a constant basis, the ungodly expense, the lying/sneaking, and the stream of kiddies that never ends. Sounds exhausting!

Although polygamy obviously exists, I don't believe it exists in this way, in suburbia, right under the noses of mainstream society. It would be way too hard to cover up, and it would involve a constant lie that would be hard for kids to reconcile (let alone keep quiet. The first time one of the kindergarteners would talk about his "3 mommies" the cat would be out of the proverbial bag.) I believe that it's probably more common to encounter a situation similar to the compounds that have been shown, up in who-knows-where land.

In the end, it's fun, the characters are well-developed, but it's a fairy tale. It's one of my "guilty pleasures."

Cat, that's exactly what I was thinking today...though the show is fun to watch, I was trying to figure out why in heaven's name anyone would want to be in that arrangement...for sure it's not for me.

GREAT Finale....although why Barb would EVER continue on with the contest is beyond me.....after the 'interview' several episodes ago when she was asked if she could travel around the state - public appearances, etc. - how could she continue knowing she had sooooooo much to hide ????

And Nicky's panic as she closed the curtains to hide from the police who she thought would come and arrest Bill - and Bill saying "They don't do that anymore" response.

I imagine it is more of a 'social' stigma now because only the 'first wife' - first marriage would be legal (I guess?). The other women would be 'girlfriends' he is having children with???

Thank goodness they only had 4 tickets to the awards ceremony - could you imagine if the sister wives had been there????

...and I LOVED that it was the nutty Wanda who posoined(sp) Bill's Father and the profits son.....yikes!

This is beginning to sound like the Sopranos

I've enjoyed it too, though you have to suspend belief every so often.
I didn't think it realistic for Barb to continue on with the award, but I guess they had to set it up for the family to be exposed.
                      Loved the Wanda psycho touch.
Hope the show comes back for another season.

...Or maybe "As The World Turns!"

I thought that Barb's insistence on going through with the charade was pretty out of character, too. It was just stupid and contrived.

Actually, I thought it was a real downer of a finale. Perhaps they don't know if it's going to be renewed for another season? And it that way, they were ending it with the inevitable uncovering of the dirty, little secret. Who knows? As dumb as it all is, I do hope it gets renewed. Like I said earlier, it's a guilty pleasure.
