I have the Nook from Barnes and Noble. I looked at both the Kindle and the Nook. I think they very similar. Same technology in both devices. What sold me on the Nook was ability to download books for free from my local library. I was not able to do that with the Kindle.

We made the same decision. Not all libraries offer free downloads though so make sure if you go this route, your local library has digital download support. Also, I recommend the warranty. We had to use it already for the nook. Ours died after 15 days. The robots at bn dot com shipped a 'new' one. It was a refurb, clearly marked on the packaging. DW went nuts. Took the busted one and the refurb back to the store and the manager took care of everything and handed her a new one. The manager said that they will ship you a refurb for a problem after the first 14 days and agreed that it was not a reasonable policy. No problems at all with the new one. Check the warranty before you buy so you're not surprised by what happens if you need to use it, no matter which one you buy.

Just saw this thread. I think you made the right decision. I have the 3G one for $189 and the battery life is the same as the wifi version if you turn the 3G off when not in use. I have not charged my kindle for the past three weeks and last night when I used it, it still had more than 3/4 of the battery left.

Love my kindle. However, knowing what I know now, I probably will go with a Nook colored version that just came out...

          Hello!

I absolutely love my Kindle. Like my Dad said, I have the Wifi version which works great for me as I don't usually feel the need to impulse buy books when I'm randomly wandering around. I'd say that if there is a stable internet connection you can easily access to go with the Wifi version.

The e-ink of the Kindle is such great technology and it really is impressive to behold. You really can't go wrong with these devices, they do exactly what they advertise and they do it better than you'd expect.

Love my Kindle. Also have downloaded the free Kindle app on to my I-phone so can continue reading where I left off, even when I don't have the actual Kindle with me.

Just to follow up. I ordered the $189 Kindle along with a 2-year warranty. I'm sure dd will love it.

I'm sure that she will love it, too.....BTW, both of my kids have kindles, and Kindle has needed to replace my son's 3 times already........He's very rough on it, but they never say boo. They simply send him a brand new Kindle, each time he returns the damaged one. No complaints here.

If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.

BTW, I'm still keeping track of how many times you annoy me.

They are incentivized to be certain that everyone has working Kindle from which to buy books

Angela, did u take the extended warranty?

I have a thread going on my Facebook page but thought I would post here as well.

Any updates/new thoughts regarding Kindle versus Nook Color???

My Library does have ebooks that require the nook.....bummer I know - but I want to get two of these - one for DH and one for me....and Kindle lets you share your account with 5 people.

Pat, dd said she loves the Kindle (and I did get the extended warantee for her). The only thing she said she would like is color. Is the Nook the only one that has color right now?

I still like my Kindle. Mine was a gift and don't know if I would have bought one, but like having it. Neither of my libraries supports Kindle format, but I get lots of free books from Amazon. Probably have more now than I could read in my lifetime.

If you have any specific questions, ask here because with all my Farmville stuff, things tend to get lost on Facebook.

ps. Have mine since early September.

The attraction of the nook color is that is it basically a mini-ipad type of device..you can effectively surf the net, do email, facebook.....at $249.

My Library also supports the nook - kindle stands alone...
You can Kindle on your Blackberry, ipad, iphone, PC, netbook.....

Is it better to get the warranty thru square trade?

                            Is this the pre=1923 books?

Here is a thought.....is it CRAZY to get a nook color for myself and a basic Kindle for DH?

A friend has told me she does not care for the nook reading format and likes the Kindle much better.

Is it realistic to think the Kindle will do an upgrade soon to compete with the nook color internet capacity???

                              Where IS that techie BoardGirl????

Probably. But I ordered the one for dd through the amazon website when I ordered the Kindle.
