Do you dowload the ebooks/audiobooks to your PC/Netbook?
    Or iphone/ipod touch?
I am curious as to where u download to at this time.

I did put the program on my computer when I was doing my Kindle research and checked my local library but have not used it yet.

This is great news! I had just reached the conclusion that I would have to wait until the Kindle could interface with libraries and viola! Here it is (sorta)! Love it. So instead of getting one for Mother's Day as planned, I'll have to wait until close to Xmas. No biggie.

I did stop at the local library and talked to their e-book expert and she's the one that told me about the Kindle press release yesterday. She said that with OverDrive - currently also used by Nook - you download to a computer and then transfer the e-book to the device using the USB. At my library you can choose (or it's chosen for you - not clear on that) a 7, 14 or 21 day check out period. At the end of that *poof* the book disappears. You can re-check it out though if there's no waiting list - just like a regular book. You can also put titles on hold - just like a regular book - and you have 4 days to download it before it goes to the next person waiting.

It looks to me as if Canadian libraries also use the OverDrive system, so it sounds like great news for us too!

I also read over on Amazon or ??? that Amazon will be releasing a tablet this summer to compete with (at a much cheaper price point) the ipad....so many choices!

I am so glad to have discovered this thread. (I came over here looking for the Bluegreen thread --- and I haven't gotten to it, yet. I am easily distracte!)

I had not heard of pixels of ink before. Now I am having fun browsing there, too.

I suggest signing up for Free & Bargain Kindle Books | Pixel of Ink daily email notification. I get an email at about 4:30pm eastern with all the days selections - if anything sounds interesting you can click thru and look.

Because I read in bright sunlight a lot (often in the car), I prefer the Kindle. I also like having the cover with the light--I read in bed often, and it's nice to have the light just on the "page."

Need some help from Nook Owners:

DH has a buddy at work that has the Nook (b&w version) that he lent to us to play with. DH did the software Overdirve/Library downloads/installs and he can get the ebooks on the regular computer. But when he tries to move the ebook over to the Nook it doesn't work. What is he probably doing wrong?

I believe you have to tether the nook to the computer - one of the "biggies" that Amazon has negotiated with Overdrive is that the Overdrive to Kindle transfer will be done via whispernet - wireless delivery!

Ok, I just checked things (as opposed to what DH was telling me) and the breakdown seems to be that my computer is not recognizing the Nook after all.

Do I need to install Nook software of some kind on my computer so my computer sees the Nook? I have had to do that in the past for other devices so it makes sense that I have to..... however, the friend didn't give us any diskes or anything, just the Nook itself.

Hmmm, probably - or do you just have to install overdrive?

Go to the nook website and see what it says - when I was doing my research I went there and I believe there is a download - but can not be sure. HTHs a bit!

Thanks Pat. We got it to work - probably in the most obscure and convoluted way possible, but it works. And didn't need any other software.

I certainly hope the Kindle will be more intuitive for me!

                                Two things:

Anyone heard an update on timing for the Kindle to be library compatible?

And another issue with the borrowed Nook... it gets these auto updates quite often when I thether it to the computer, mainly to charge it up as it's convenient and sometimes the only way to charge it (ie: at airport). Which would be sorta ok except that 1) I don't get a choice to update later and the timing really stinks sometimes and 2) the updates clears out my library! So I have to re-install the books I've borrowed onto the Nook. This caused me alot of trouble last time and in essance made the Nook unavailable for me to use during our recent air flights (wiped out library right before flights). I was pissed! Is there some setting I can set to not have it auto update? Why does it update so often - at least once a week?

I am not loving the Nook
