  • Anyone download rental library books

to an ipad 2? Is it easy? I went to our local library to see if they had the facilities to do this and the librarian gave me a brochure on the library services and their website and told me that would tell me all I need to know. I'm still not sure how to do it.

I did purchase one book from itunes and it was a breeze. Ordered it and it was on my ipad in no time flat. Same for library rental? TIA

Our public library has e-books on epub format. They can be checked out and downloaded on epub compatable devices, including Nook. It's pretty easy, but I haven't tried it on an iPad yet. Through our library, download is easy, but you only get the book for 2-3 weeks, then it disappears. At least there are no overdue fines!
    Here's a link to a tutorial:

Thanks, Jeanne. Sounds a little more complicated than purchasing from iTunes but I'll give it a try 2 weeks before I leave for vacation the end of Sept. I'll post how I made out.

I do it alot. I had to download an app called Overdrive. I think I might have had to register with adobe, too. I heard that movies will be downloadable using this app soon, too.

I did download overdrive but that is as far as I got. You do mean to download it to your ipod and not your computer, don't you?

          Can't wait to download movies.

I use Overdrive to move mp3 audiobooks from the library to my mp3 player, which is a Sansa, not an iPod.

For that, I had to put Overdrive on my computer. Then you download the audio books to the computer, and then move them to the Sansa.

If everything goes smoothly, it's pretty straightforward. But I find that if I don't use Overdrive for a while, I have to reinstall it from the library's website.

When u get a book from iTunes, you are purchasing it and it is yours to keep. With most Public Libraries, you are borrowing the book and it stays for anywhere from one to three weeks.

Your library probably uses the Overdrive to get the books to you. You can also download Nook to your iPad if that would make borrowing easier. And you can also put the Kindle app on your iPad, I have and use that frequently for all the free books I get from Amazon.

I am pretty sure you need to have an online library account. Once u set that up, try to reserve and get a book NOW as practice for your trip. If it works like Amazon, it will detect the Overdrive and Nook app on your iPad and ask u which program u want to download your borrowed book into.

              Good Luck!

I do have the kinsle app on my ipad along with overdrive. I'll hjaveto fiddle around with them.

Funny thing, though. The librarian said it can download to most tablets except kindle. She said kindle has something different.

I think 1st I'll try to download a free book from Amazon and then later try the library. Thanks for the helpers.

Kindle will support borrowing library books later this year and u will be able to do it wirelessly.
Right now in order to get a library book to your iPad or Nook, u have to attach the device to the computer by a cord.

Maybe for a Nook, definitely not for an Ipad.
