  • Library and Travel Books ?

Before I buy any travel books, I always go to the travel section of the library and check out the travel books, I find a book that would suit my needs. Then right before I go, I buy the book I like or check out the book I like the best, to take with me.

Does anyone else go to the library and check out travel books?

    Ken,
I always check our local Library first. Ours does not have a huge selection but they have some of the basics for some of the more popular areas and countries. Sometimes they don't always have the latest year one or it is out but many times I can get something I am looking for.

Almost ALWAYS! How else would I have ended up in the Tunnel of Love in Aruba ? I have been meaning to write Frommers about that hot little tip as I can't believe with all there is to do in Aruba they would recommend THAT.

The nearest branch to us doesn't have a good travel section but the Nanuet branch has a great selection, including the Frommers and Fodors.

DH is usually the one that picks them up and I will sort thru to pick out the one or two that I like best and pack them right in the suitcases or carry-on.

While you're at it, give them hell for me too......

I do go to the library before a trip, but mostly for pleasure reading during the flight and vacation. I get most of my travel information off the net.

BTW, I'm still keeping track of how many times you annoy me.

Of course I do! In fact, until we recently became TS owners, we'd pick a city and book our first and last night hotel stays. Then my husband would review the travel book on the plane and decide what he wanted to see while we were there. It's going to be a little different from now on with a full week in a location, but I'm sure those travel books will be just as useful now.

I go to www.amazon.com and read the reviews there and then buy it. Lately, I have bought used books which are cheaper but they are always new when I get them. Do not mix new and used books together because then you have double shipping because they come from different sources.

              Travel Books

Thank you so much for the information. I am loving this site more and more each day. I never thought about ordering a used book from Amazon. After reading your message, I ordered a book on Sedona for my upcoming trip. I can't wait until it arrives. Prior to today, most of my research about places I travel to has been online and through travel magazines and brochures. I also do a lot of writing to Chambers of Commerce to obtain brochures.

This book will give me detailed information on the geology of Sedona.
