NYC is much warmer now than 120 years ago but it is also much more urban. Rome and Paris are no warmer now than they were 200 years ago. Some glacier are melting. But is it due to a warmer summer or less snow in the winter? (less snow can caused by many different things not just tempature)
What I'm saying is that no one can believe either side in this debate because they both have a significant self interest in the outcome of the debate.Bill

Still an important message to hear...
Whether or not you believe in global warming, or that CO2 may be causing it, or that the future holds much uncertainty (well - don't we all believe that one...)
the movie has an important message. The movie can give you pause to consider your own daily habits and how you might change them to have even a very small impact. Perhaps CO2 is not the issue. Perhaps global warming is not real. But what if increasing CO2 *is* the problem causing global warming? Ultimately no one may be able to prove this. At least the movie forces you to look at the data (I believe that the data presented are all correct in terms of recorded temperatures and recorded CO2 concentrations in the atmosphere.) Polar bears have been found dead from drowning. Glaciers are melting. There is something real happening.
To say it is all hogwash is to bury your head in the sand and ignore the problems with respect to changes occuring in the world.
Seeing the movie gives you a moment to look at the data and see what you might conclude about it. It is not propaganda. It is Gore using data and trying to send a message about the data that has been collected. You don't have to believe his message, but you should at least look at the data. I believe you can also see it on the website. I found it very compelling, though I must admit that I still want to talk to my coworker who has actually worked in this field for the last two decades to find out her thoughts on the movie. Too bad I won't see her until September when the academic year begins anew...
Please go see the movie and decide for yourself.

I don't know, but after reading the Wall Street Journal today, I'm moving to almost-balmy Greenland!"Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired signifies, in the final sense, a theft from those who hunger and are not fed and those who are cold and are not clothed."

On a side note: There was an article in the seattle paper this weekend telling people they need to change their ways and live closer to where they work. It was written by a U of W professor who live 50 miles from the Univ. and given much support by the ed. staff at the paper, 3 of whom live more than 40 miles from the paper.Bill

I read the Michael Critendon book and it was very interesting with all of the historical data. It shows that statistics or data can be used in support or against an argument so the listener/reader really has to know the complete book of the data to put it into perspective.
If the listener/reader does not know the complete book of data, then they are at the mercy of the person presenting the information.
