  • What are you reading?

I am a big mystery fan and an avid reader, but I was given a book a few weeks ago and am now reading it. The title is "Don't Go" by Lisa Scottoline. It is a story of a reservist doctor called up to serve in Afghanistan and the untimely, accidental death of his wife while he is away.

I just started this read last night and I already see several twists and turns.

    What's on YOUR nightstand???

I've been re-reading books from my youth to see what I think of them now. Currently working on Trixie Belden -- wow did the writing quality drop when the originator left the series! Nancy Drew, OTOH, was completely unreadable from the git go (the seventies versions, anyhow), which didn't surprise me, but I can't seem to get into The Chronicles of Narnia either, which I never expected.

Also been on a Jane Austen binge this year -- I've read all her novels a couple of times before, but this time I'm going through the ones with the David M. Shapard annotations. The library had the annotated Pride and Prejudice and Persuasion, and I just bought the annotated Emma this month.

And I hope to get going on Walt Disney: Hollywood's Dark Prince before I have to turn it back into the library next week.

Not exactly exciting by most people's standards but I gotta get it read before the end of the year.

I have been re-reading Lawrence Block's Matt Scudder series in order and enjoying them.

I could use a book to make me laugh if anyone has a suggestion.

lawren, I loved that Matt Scudder series, so sorry he stopped writing them. and I never liked the other series he wrote

I wanted to mention an author, Michael Kyorta, i have read three of his books recently, and they were well done, unpredictable, and well plotted.
I have a list of 50 to 75 authors and i always try to get their next book, but I am looking for new names

I consider myself a binge reader. I read a lot; then quit for weeks. One of the reasons I quit is because once I start a book, it consumes me. Currently I'm on one of my binges. I like Contemporary Romances. Just read Safe Haven by Nicholas Sparks. Saw the DVD first; then read book. For this story, I preferred doing it in that order.

My favorite authors are Robyn Carr, Debbie Macomber, Susan Mallory and Sheryll Woods. I like series books such as the Cedar Cove series. I prefer Ebooks, but I also try to use library books, either hard copies or Ebooks. Just checked out The Wanderer by Carr; Lost and Found in Cedar Cove (short story) by Macomber, and After Tex by Woods.

Guess I'll be in this binge mode for awhile.

I have been reading the Sandford "Prey" series in order, but needed a break from them. In just finished "Broken Prey," and thoiught this book "don't Go" would be lighter.

I did like the Light Between the Oceans.

Harlan Coben is one of my fav writers. Just completed the James Patterson women's murder club series.

Almost anything is lighter than the prey series. The Swedish writers are darker, but not by a lot.

I'm currently reading Waiting to Be Heard by Amanda Knox. I think the girl is innocent, BTW. Although you will never convince anyone in Italy of that.

Oh, I want to read that too. Maybe on my next extended trip. I too think she is innocent, and you are correct the Italians were too quick to grab the moment and arrest her without what we consider due process.
