I was about 9 years old, I did recall there was an issue but did not know how bad it was untill the movie. Through the years I have seen it about a half dozen times. Those last five minutes were the best when the craft hit re entry. I still hold my breath. I can't imagine how the families were able to handle what went on.
The amount of famous actors in it were plenty but many were not known then. There were at least a dozen actors and actresses that were not famus then but are well known now.. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0112384/

If you have not seen the movie watch it it is long but the suspense is great.

I only saw it once, but really liked it.
Ron Howard always puts his brother Clint ( remember Gentle Ben?) in his movies.
