  • My House Is Going to be in a Movie !

I own a two-family, rental property, in South Boston (Southie). I don't live there, but grew up about 5 houses from it.
Anyway, the exterior of the house will figure prominently (unless it gets cut) in a movie that's going to be released on October 6, 2006. It's "The Departed", starring Jack Nicholson, Matt Damon, Leo DiCaprio, Martin Sheen, Alec Baldwin, Donny Wahlberg.
It's a tan-light brown house with a maroonish-red door and trim about a block up from Carson Beach/L St. Bath House, aka "The Irish Riviera".

Make sure you have your volume up. Nicholson has something very funny to say at the end.

I only got to see them from afar as the street was closed off due to the camera crews, trucks, lights and a whole cast of extras.
Apparently, my house has better movie appeal than me !
      Looks like an intense movie.

That really is exciting. I will be sure to look for your house when the movie is released.....

If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.

BTW, I'm still keeping track of how many times you annoy me.

They probably needed that ramshackle, run-down, urban blight effect ! Ha!

Seriously, it has some character as it was built in 1900 and is on a nice tree-lined block in an urban area, but a block from a Boston Harbor beach.

I hope that it doesn't end up on the editor's cutting room floor !

When I see the movie, I'll report back re: what scenes it was in, etc. They used just the exterior, not the interiors (that was done back in Hollywood, no doubt).

                    Conchie,
Right back at you, too ! You bring a lot of class here yourself and I'm not trying to be just reciprocal. Thank you.
This is supposed to be a hard-biting, gritty movie. I grew up in this neighborhood and know the characters well. Some took to crime, some took to law, but the vast majority were good, hard-working blue collar, rank & file folks who tried their best, made a better world for their kids, etc.
This is the "Goodwill Hunting" area of Boston. A unique, Irish, blue-collar, no-nonsense town that sent the highest number (per capita) in the country of young men to Vietnam. That's a statistical fact. It was stupidly portrayed in that awful rendering of it in "Mystic River". Not even close !
