I wonder what effect this will have on Cayman Islands Stingray City tours?

I had the same question on the other post here regarding this tragic accident. We are going to the Cayman Islands in December and are planing on going to Stingray City but I'm afraid that my wife will freak out when she hears about this and will not want to go.

To think I pet one yesterday at Candem Aquarium in NJ. In fact I had a Sting ray in my fish tank years ago. I love the way they swim.

Frank likes to see things swim with the fishes.

Apparently stingrays have a barb on the tail, which is what inflicted this fatal injury. Stingrays in parks and aquariums have the barbs trimmed or removed for safety.

I feel very bad for his family.

I got a stingray sting in the foot last summer at a beach in San Diego. Definitely not a good experience, but I was lucky and healed very well. (Not sure how well the stingray did -- I had stepped on it. I'll know to shuffle next time.) Steve Irwin's death is not going to help me with the fear that I've developed of stingrays.

Apparently he was swimming 2 1/2 metres above the ray when it turned suddenly and flicked it's tail upwards. A freakish accident. There is footage of the incident as a cameraman was with hiim but that footage is now part of the investigation so has not been released. On the radio this morning there are accounts of other people dying the same way even though it's rare.

How sad for his poor wife and children. I really feel for them. He was a genuine and good bloke.

Heard this morning that many are revolting against the Stingrays because of Steves death. They have found 10 rays washed up on shore with there tails removed.

At the RISK of getting flammed, I found an intersting (morbid) video game.

An offbeat memorial to Steve Irwin has been offered up by an online gaming website which has created a game called Terri Irwin's Revenge.

The game, which is being circulated via email, takes the form of a simple animated pop-up box which depicts an armed Terri Irwin firing at stingrays underwater.

Using simple keyboard keys, the aim of the game is to kill as many stingrays as possible without getting hit.
