  • Anyone Read Bill O'Reillys Culture Warrior Yet?

I'm going to pick up a copy. It seems like a very interesting book.

    ABOUT THIS BOOK

Bill O’Reilly is the very embodiment of the idea of a Culture Warrior—and in this book he lives up to the title brilliantly, with all the brashness and forthrightness at his command. He sees that America is in the midst of a fierce culture war between those who embrace traditional values and those who want to change America into a “secular-progressive” country. This is a conflict that differs in many ways from the usual liberal/conservative divide, but it is no less heated, and the stakes are even higher.

In Culture Warrior, Bill O’Reilly defines this war and analyzes the competing philosophies of the traditionalist and secular-progressive camps. He examines why the nation’s motto “E Pluribus Unum” (“From Many, One”) might change to “What About Me?”; dissects the forces driving the secular-progressive agenda in the media and behind the scenes, including George Soros, George Lakoff, and the ACLU; and dives into matters of race, education, and the war on terror. He also shows how the culture war has played out in such high-profile instances as The Passion of the Christ, Fahrenheit 9/11, the abuse epidemic (child and otherwise), and the embattled place of religion in public life—with special emphasis on the war against Christmas. Whatever controversies are roiling the nation, he fearlessly confronts them—and no one will be in the dark about which side he’s on.

Culture Warrior showcases Bill O’Reilly at his most eloquent and impassioned. He is an unrelenting fighter for the soul of America, and in this book he fights the good fight for the traditional values that have served this country so well for so long.

I am a huge Bill O'Reilly fan and should read the book. I like his traditional values, but he claims he is an independent. I get a kick out of that one.

He has more common sense than most any other television reporter/anchor/commentator.

LOL. You better buy a copy because I hear those Shenandoah Crossing weeks have very low TP in RCI.

I'm glad you took it as I intended.

My spouse loves O'Reilly, I on the other hand generally would like to take him out back and beat the $#%& out of him.

          Take care Boca.

I read a bunch of blogs and book reviews across the internet. I find that mostly what I read was either off the charts praise or complete panning of Bill O'Reilly and his book.

I think this polarization of views is exactly what he is writing about. I have personally been perlexed by this divide in the country.

What is even more interesting is that many of those who were praising him pointed out specific content in the book that they supported. Many others were quite religious using phrases like "God Bless" in their reviews.

Those who panned it almost universally had nothing they could point to that was wrongly presented in the book. They just called him names.

This could be that those who support Bill and his views actually read the book. Those who don't support him didn't read the book, but had an opinion of Bill anyway. After all, would many people buy a book and read it if they despised the person?

I read Ann Coulter's Book "Godless" this past summer. It had lots of facts supporting her underlying beliefs about liberals. Her style ridicules them which turns them against her. But, the conclusions she reached were very logically conceived. I see that Susan Estrich just put out a book about Ann Coulter called "Souless". I am going to buy that book, too. I'd like to see someone rebutt Ann's claims. Susan Estrich is very smart and tends to be intellectually honest.

I find that I understand more about what is going on when I read intelligently written books about important subjects from polar opposites.

                Who's Bill OReilly?

Btw, anybody wanting to read a good book, buy "Hubris" by Michael Isikoff and David Corn. It has also just been released in audiobook form.

Watch Fox News cable at 7:00 p.m., The Bill O'Reilly Show. It's a news/commentator/opinion show.

It is the highest rated cable news show on the air. It generates deep passionate responses that are both positive and negative towards Mr. O'Reilly.

Oh, that guy...I know who he is. I just never thought of him in relation to culture, or being cultured either.

                      you got that right (correct)

I enjoy a good conservative commentator (if that's not an oxymoron). Bill Buckley and George Will are two of my favorites.
I just get tired of hearing how the liberals have been ruining the country and run the media. I'll bet you dollars to donuts most people can name more conservative media personas then they can liberal personas ( Unless you consider everyone not a conservative to be a liberal). They've been (mis)running the whole country for the better part of 8 years.
Fox resembles a news show until you listen to what their reporters say (The only time you can tell they're slanting the news is when you see their mouth move).

This holyier than thou stuff they've been coming out with doesn't resemble the Christian attitude I saw most clearly with the recent trajedy in Lancaster PA.

I don't have to be a Christian to live in this country. The laws were made to keep the mythology out of good goverance.

I apologize for the rant, this stuff gets my blood boiling.
Boca, did I stray off topic?

Bill Buckley and George Will are true conservatives...not those tax (the poor and middle class) and spend neocons running Washington these years.

Conservative vs. Liberal, Traditionalist vs. Secular-Progressive, it doesn't matter what your viewpoint is as long as you truly understand it and don't follow the doctrine simply because you always have. Each philosophy has pros and cons. Good parts and bad parts.

It's very similar to the Points vs. Weeks debates we have. Both are good under the right circumstances. And both have unique problems.

And while I do get heated about this stuff.

I'm sure glad we are able to freely express these things, while recognizing that we've all got alot more that we agree about (like great ts vacations for one thing) then we disagree about.
