    Peter Boyle dead at age 71

    NEW YORK - Peter Boyle, the actor who transformed from an angry workingman in "Joe" to a tap-dancing monster in "Young Frankenstein" and finally the comically grouchy father on "Everybody Loves Raymond," has died. He was 71.

        I liked him. Did you know he was good friends with John Lennon? I think Lennon was Boyle's best man at his wedding.

            That is sad. A loss for the world. But his comic genius in ELR will live on in syndication for a long, long time.

              How sad. I really did like him on "Raymond". That seems young these days -- or is it just because I'm older and think of 71 as young?
