Has anyone else seen this film? What do you think? I found it very engrossing and think it's historically accurate to a large extent. But I'm not so sure the Mayan culture was still engaged in human sacrifice to appease their gods at the same time the white man came to spread the Christian faith to the "New World".

Anyway, anybody who likes to visit the Yucatan of Mexico and Mayan sites like Chichen Itza should see this film. Just so long as you don't mind a little blood and gore.

Movie is also in subtitles. Do you know if the actors were actually speaking Mayan?

They were speaking a Mayan dialect called Yukatek. But there are some other Mayan dialects depending on where the Mayans lived, and I heard that the film was screened in the very southern part of the Yucatan and the Mayans there preferred to read Spanish subtitles since they couldn't understand the northern dialect as well. They also considered the film too violent and a misrepresentation of their culture.

Me, I thought they were on the mark with costumes, adornments etc...but wow were they off when they showed the Christian missionaries coming ashore. They were at least 6 centuries off!
