  • Rod Stewart Concert Tour

I just caught the first night of Rod Stewart's new tour. It's a terrific show (note: it's all Rod there is no opening act) and it's all Rod "the rocker"! Absolutely none of the new pop standards recordings (which I think are okay but are not my favorites of his work). It's one after another of his old hits and lots of fun. You can tell he's having fun with it too. He also does some covers of other people's big hits. One of my favorites was the old Cat Stevens song "Father & Son" - which is accompanied by a slide show of Rod with his father and with his young son. He looks fantastic - it's hard to believe he's 62. The show is in the round with a center stage and semi-circle runways on each side. There are about 10 musicians that perform onstage with him and 3 backup singers. At times they seemed to drown him out a bit but that might have been partly due to this being the first night of the tour. If you like Rod's classic rock hits you'll love the show - he's an icon - and if he's coming to your town I would highly recommend getting tickets!
