  • Grease: You're the One that I Want.

I've been watching this program for the last couple of weeks and I must say that I really like it. I'm surprised that there isn't a thread on it. Watching the talent selection process and the improvement of several of the participants from week to week is outstanding. This past week they had Andrew Lloyd Webber as a judge and the contestants sang his songs. I learned a lot about what they are actually trying to achieve in the performances. What do others think?

I'm starting to form my favorites. LAURA is it for me right now. She had an unbelievable performance of Jesus Christ Superstar that had Andrew Lloyd Webber in awe. Wow. Her a cappella performance was the most impressive. I hope she wins now.

For me, Grease came out when I was a young teenager. I loved and sang all the songs all the time. I was in love with Sandy. Can any of these contestants do the same? Ashley, the Meg Ryan look alike, is probably one of the crowd favorites because she looks the part. Kate has the best overall voice.

Max, Austin and Chad are my favorites for Danny. Chad has the look. Max has the most talent. Austin is the best dancer.

I think a half dozen of these actors and actresses will have very successful broadway careers because of this show. People will come to see their musicals just because they became celebs right before our eyes. I think Laura will be the lead somewhere just because of how Andrew Lloyd Webber reacted to her performance. All he has to do is pick up the phone and recommend her for a part and it would be hers to lose.

This is an interesting new twist to the American Idol phenomena.

    Like it

We've been watching it, but haven't gotten to the point of chosing favorites. We like the fact that the judges aren't "mean" like on American Idol, and we really enjoy this music much better.

I've been watching this too. I voted last week for two people that I wanted to see come back, but haven't really chosen a favorite boy and girl yet, although I also do like Austin Chad and Max for Danny.

I haven't been watching the show, but my little 6 year old just picked the part of Sandy out of a hat for her 1st/2nd grade after school music/drama class that is doing a short performance of Grease next month. They changed the line "did you get very far" to "was the beach very far."

I'll have to Tivo the show so the girls can watch it. (Is it appropriate for 6 and 7 year olds??)

Tonights show was really revealing. They matched up pairs and chemistry was really important.

The top 4 tonight were Chad, Allie, Austin and Ashley. I think they will be the final 4.

Laura was good, but she couldn't keep up with Austin's emotional commitment. He really appeared to be totally in love with her. That was incredible acting.

Chad was phenomenal and Allie came out of nowhere. They have fantastic chemistry. They could very well be the 2 winners. I love how they ended that scene. The way Allie put her arm around Chad was really sensuous.

Kate got wiped out by a terrible performance by Derek. He was out of tune on 2 passages. Ouch. And, it made her look like she had no emotional range. I think it just killed her. This pair will probably make the bottom 4. The only good thing for them is that Kathleen and Kevin will absolutely be ousted next week. No way they make it unless American really screws up and for some reason votes either of them in.

If Laura doesn't step it up next week, her performance last week will prove that she was a one trick pony. But, what a trick that was. I don't see a good partner for her in this line up. Max and Laura doesn't work.

We need the final pair ups to be Austin and Ashley as one couple and Chad and Allie as the other. Then, they perform 2 or 3 of the exact same scenes that have the most range of song, drama and dance. Then, we can make a choice.

Of these two couples, I'd have to go with Chad and Allie. I believe they will be Sandy and Danny.

            Jim,

I haven't seen this show yet....Not sure why. However, I will tune in and check it out. Sounds interesting!

If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.

BTW, I'm still keeping track of how many times you annoy me.

I really want to like this show...have seen Grease so many times, and sang them with friends, then children, now whoever wants to sing along...but the show is disappointing to me, though I can't put my finger on it. Admittedly, there are very good performers, but not a lot of pizzazz or something.

                Connie,

For me, it was just the opposite. I thought it would be really boring, so I didn't want to watch it. I watched the first show and decided not to TIVO it.

Then, I turned on the TV to watch the Apprentice and it was on. So, I watched.

I had two concerns. First, how many times could I bear listening to the same songs over and over again. I thought they would each be singing Grease songs all show long. Second, who could compare to Olivia Newton-John and John Travolta.

What got me hooked was they get to sing other songs that are meant to show off various types of music and acting abilities. And, every show, you get a magnificent performance by one or more contestants. I must have listened to Laura's performance of Jesus Christ Superstar a dozen times now. I was blown away by it. Last night, Chad and Allie's performance of "Ain't no mountain high enough" was off the charts. After that, I can see them playing Danny and Sandy in Grease.

Then, they do one or two songs from Grease to help remind you what they are trying to cast for. It's fascinating to me how many different skills it takes to be a good lead in this musical. The audition process is actually very multi-faceted. I had no idea how complex it was until this show. That's probably what has me most intrigued about it. I have to watch each performance several times to get everything that is happening.

It will be interesting to see how popular it is and if they will do another musical casting call in this way. I'm not sure what the ratings have been.

I do know this. I'd like to see the winners perform the actual musical. I think many others will have the same desire. I think it will be a smash hit because of it. Now, I need to figure out how to get to NY when they are performing it.

This is just another sad attempt at tv trying to come up with something new. All the vote in shows are just a waste of time. They are all the same. Too long and too stupid. TV sure isn't what it used to be. When they came out with eating worms is just gotten worse. Thank goodness for History & Discovery.

                    Bing,

Why are you always so negative? Just because you don't like something, it doesn't make it stupid. I actually find it quite enjoyable, entertaining and educational.

Why would someone watch a show if they think it's stupid? Is it the same reason that someone who hates timeshares hangs out on a timeshare bulletin board? That doesn't sound too intelligent to me.

I agree that Austin and Ashley as one couple and Chad and Allie as the other should be the final four. I know that they think that Max has "the look" but someone who has moved around from job to like he has may not be a good risk for an every day commitment to a New York play.

I enjoy this too and look forward to each week.

If you enjoy the program then by all means watch it. It just isn't for me so I don't watch them. O.K.?

My purpose here on the timeshare site is to inform people who are considering purchasing a t/s that they have good information. Entering into legal binding lifelong contracts is not to be taken lightly. I want to know they are happy with what they purchased rather than be hurt because they did not get correct information.

Fair enough. And, you are entitled to your opinion. Interestingly enough, we have the same objective regarding timesharing.

Boca - you had me very curious about the show, so I Tivoed (that word may someday make it into the dictionary...) it. I have to say, I was quite disappointed. Most of the girls were overacting all the songs. The only person who came across as believable was Laura. She was fantastic. I had to fast-forward through everything else because the performances seemed so unbelievable. Maybe it was just because they were focusing only on the 4 girls tonight and not the acting of pairs?? Laura seemed like the only person with any talent this evening. But I have to say, her performance really was outstanding.

I just finished watching this evening's show. I agree it was very disappointing tonight. The good news is that Laura showed why she was my favorite after Jesus Christ Superstar.

Kathleen was horrible. She shouldn't have been saved. She will be the one that goes next week.

Allie was a terrible actress. And Ashley was very weak today.

I was surprised that Chad got voted into the bottom 4. His save was an easy one. Derek was very bad last week. I think his fan base voted him in. It's a good thing the judges can save one pair.

In the last 2 weeks, there were some awesome performances. Not so tonight except for Laura. I think she just took the lead in the contest.
