  • XM & Sirius Satellite Radio to merge

To put an end to the which satellite service is better question XM & Sirius plan to merge by year end. This almost had to happen as the costs to operate two competing systems and the confusion for consumers was too much. I hope the best of the XM offerings remain intact as I do prefer their commercial free music channels and I look forward to getting the full NFL schedule that was previously only on Sirius. And best of all - no class action was needed! Consumers win by allowing competition decide whats best. If a operational model doesn't work it gets changed. What a concept.

I am curious how many people use either?

I do a lot of traveling and I have seriously considered buying but my monthly expenses are already so high...

So, who has Satellite radio and do you think it was a good investment or not?

      We have XM

I agree with Timeos -- I, too, hope the commercial-free music remains.

I am more of a "listen to the radio" person (vs watching tv, except for HGTV).

And, because I am, AAHEM, an older person, I enjoy listening to the music of days gone by. The radio is on in our home 24/7. When we travel it is on in the car.

This "toy" was a gift from my son -- who foots the bill.
      hope this info helps,

Question remains whether the Feds will approve this merger as I understand it currently would be illegal as anti competitive and actually legislated against...although I hope it does happen and I do love the Commercial Free XM music.. Have never heard Sirrius although there are some features as mentioned that I would love to have access to...Tom

The merger would make it a monopoly. I have no desire to listen to vulgarity on the radio and I can make a CD with just what I want to hear if I don't want any commercials. Actually I enjoy the silence in my truck that has no radio at all.

I have XM , Before having it I had said that I would never pay for radio. Now after using it for about a year I changed my mind. I enjoy being able to have 1 station on while traveling from state to state without losing it.
BTW They claim commercial free but there are commercials.
