I saw the follow-up show on Oprah, it was interesting how many people were saying it utterly changed their lives. I noted that their was one woman who kept asking about God in this theory. They kept saying that God was included, that it was very spiritual. They sort of said that God and Heaven are within us, and we just need to tap into them. That concept is in the Bible, it is not new, but it was used by churches that were being admonished. It also reminds me of something a lot of churches teach; name it and claim it.

It seems interesting, but I don't think it can be reconciled with a belief in the Bible. I bring it up only because they seemed to think that it could. Oprah herself said she had done the research many years ago to be sure that it was not against the teachings of the Bible. The lady in the audience wasn't convinced, and I'm not yet either.

Has anyone read it? What do you think?

I have seen some mixed reviews on this and would also be interested to hear from folks that have read the book, seen the DVD, etc.

I ordered The Secret on Amazon.com after the follow-up show was aired on Oprah. I also enjoy reading Dr. Wayne Dyer's inspiring books and watching his National Public Television specials.

Sounds sort of like something I was taught many years ago. A positive attitude returns positive results. Only you control you attitude, good or bad for better or for worse. Unfortunately I can't recall the speakers name but it was pre Zig Ziggler. He also told the story of "Acres of Diamonds." It was essentially the story of an African man who sold his land to go searching for riches in the diamond mines, only to learn that the land he had owned was harboring one of the largest diamond mines in Africa.

Norman Vincent Peale was THE original positive thinker, with his beliefs deeply rooted in his belief of God. He was a preacher and realized that people did not want to hear bad news at church, or be preached to about how to lead their lives. They came to hear the good news and the positive Biblical passages. So his Power of Positive Thinking theories very definitely do work. There is a old movie about him on TCM every now and then, and it is a very great biography that he approved. I forgot the name of the movie, but it is worth watching.

Guideposts is the brainchild of Peale and his wife. This is an inexpensive magazine of which I subscribe, and there are dozens of miracles in that publication every month. The power of prayer is alive and well. The Secret seems to be the same kind of thing, an old theory to my mind, but it really is a revelation to those who do not know what the power of prayer and positive thinking can do.

From what I have read, this book, especially the book on tape, would be great for our non-believing son, who truly has little motivation in his life. He would benefit from any message that says he can do anything, if he sets his mind to it.
